The Dawn of Non-Surgical Treatment

However much they like to deny it, we all know that half of the reason that celebrities look so good is because of expensive plastic surgery. But recently a new Smörgåsbord of non-surgical treatments have hit the market complimenting tried and tested skincare techniques. Inspired by these new treatments I wanted to take a look at ways, old and new, expensive and affordable, to take care of your skin.

Prevention is Better Than CureIt’s probably safe to say that celebrities think more about their appearance than the rest of us. They think into the future about how they can prevent wrinkles, spots and dark patches.

• Applying sunscreen every single day is the first step! A recent article in The Mail said that the sun’s UV rays account for 80% of skin aging.

Prevention: DietDiet has a bigger impact on the skin than we give it credit for. Leslie Baumann, MD at Miami Beach Dermatologist says "Good nutrition is a fundamental building block of healthy skin“.

• Pumpkin - Is full of Betacarotene, an important antioxidant for skin cell development

• Sweet Potatoes – Rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that aids collagen production & strengthens capillaries to the skin

• Tomatoes – Are a great source of Selenium, a powerful antioxidant which protects against skin cancer and sun damage

• Avocado – Contains Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats which act as natural moisturiser for your skin.

• Water – Moisture helps keep skin supple and soft so aim to drink 6 to 8 glasses everyday.

TreatmentFor many of us, the damage is already done. It may be all well and good for celebrities to eat right, avoid stress and the sun but us mortals will end up with a wrinkle or two despite our best efforts.

So what can we do to reverse the effects of time and stress on our face?

Non-Surgical TreatmentYou might not expect them to but non-surgical treatments can often have instant results. These treatments can be one offs or treatments which you have in ‘instalments’. The amount of time that the treatments last for varies depending on the type of treatment, but if you’re feeling adventurous why not check out some of these treatments…

Wrinkle Treatment: ProductsThere are so many ant-aging products on the market that I often like to see which products have been highly rated in the press and choose my anti-wrinkle cream that way. But since I’ve already trawled through the glossy pages for you, here are my top 3:

• Skin Truffle from Temple Spa is a facial moisturiser that leaves skin feeling dewy whilst treating anti-aging in the long term

• Age reversal eye complex from Dermalogica targets the delicate eye area, plumping out lines

• Crème De La Mer’s lifting and firming face mask may break the bank, but it will leave your skin feeling fresh, tight and glowing

If All Else Fails...

Stress will not only prevent you from taking care of your skin, drinking enough water and eating right, but it will also cause undue wrinkles and frown-lines. So if you can’t do anything else for your skin, take time out for yourself to unwind each day.
