Are you prepared to save someone’s life? In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 34 seconds. Approximately
300,000 people in the United States experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
each year. Approximately 4 out of 5 sudden cardiac arrests happen at home.
When the heart stops beating, a victim’s chance of survival decreases by 7-10%
for every minute that defibrillation is delayed.
About half of Americans (49%) have one of three key risk factors that increase
their chances for heart disease or having a heart attack: high blood pressure, high
LDL cholesterol, and smoking. Other medical conditions and lifestyle choices that
can put people at risk include diabetes, obesity, and excessive alcohol use.
Few victims experiencing sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital survive un-
less a rapid sequence of events takes place in the first few minutes: Recognition
and Action, CPR, Defibrillation, Advanced Care.

Emergency Care & Safety Institute, ECSI, is the recognized international
provider of emergency care and safety training with thousands of education
centers and instructors worldwide. ECSI is the only training organization
with an exclusive relationship with both the American Academy of Orthope-
dic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American College of Emergency Physicians
(ACEP), both of which serve as the authorizing medical bodies and en-
dorsement for ECSI.
The AAOS has a long history of providing training programs and materials
to emergency responders. This began in 1971 with the publication of Emer-
gency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured, the nations first
textbook for emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Today this book is in
its tenth edition and continues to prepare EMT’s for their vital jobs. \
ACEP, founded in 1968, is the worlds oldest and largest emergency medi-
cine specialty organization, recognized as the leader in emergency medi-
cine. ACEP Provides medical review and direction for all levels of ECSI
programs from lay person to health care professionals.
Both AAOS and ACEP provide input into the process of setting national
guidelines such as those published by the American Heart Association.
The medical content in all ECSI Courses is consistent with the latest CPR,
AED and first aid guidelines. All ECSI courses are updated to reflect the
2010 ILCOR Consensus Guidelines for CPR and ECC. All ECSI courses
meet or exceed the medical objectives of similar training programs, such as
those released by the American Heart Association.
AAOS and ACEP believe the quality of ECSI training programs and materi-
als is unrivaled and stand behind ECSI as an organization and its important
mission of making lifesaving skills training accessible and affordable to as
wide a population as possible.
The training for mariners allows them to handle any type situation in both
domestic and international waters in accordance with the Standard for
Training Certification, and Watchkeeping. This is implemented by the U.S.
Coast Guard in order to ensure that US Merchant Mariners have the skills &
abilities to serve aboard seagoing vessels. This is in compliance with
STCW. Our instructors are approved and certified by the following organi-
zations: American Heart Association (AHA), Emergency Care and Safety
Institute (ECSI), American Safety Health Institute (ASHI), OSHA and the
United States Coast Guard at the National Maritime Center. We have a
doctor and nurse as Medical Directors and as we expand into the new
areas, we will be directed by additional experts. As you may be aware,
many states and agencies, including OSHA, are mandating that all organi-
zations are required to have basically trained personnel to act as interim
first responders until EMTs, Paramedics and other professionals can arrive
on the scene.
