my name is Susanne Bushnaq and since 2016 I am the headmaster of the Genius Academy in Heidelberg.

After finishing my university degree in German as a Foreign Language and Intercultur-al Communication at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, I worked as a lecturer in Germany and abroad and as a proofreader and examiner for relevant lan-guage examinations for university entrance. Germany is known as “the land of poets and philosophers”, modern Germany is a land of inventors and researchers and German is their language. German is a scientific language at universities and the mother tongue of many people in the European Union.

We at Genius Academy pay attention to a very good relevant university education of our lecturers both for the general language courses and for the medical courses. Concerning our course levels, teaching contents, text-books, examinations and language certificates, we ensure compliance with the guideline of the Common Europe-an Framework of Reference (CEFR). The CEFR is binding for us and a recommendation of the Council of Europe. It divides the languages into different levels: A1 and A2 (basic language user), B1 and B2 (independent language user) C1 and C2 (proficient language user). The same applies to our medical courses, which additionally follow the guidelines of the medical association and the quality requirements and examination regulations regulated there to obtain the license to practice medicine in Germany.

Test Preparation Courses

TestDaF Preparation Course

The TestDaF is one of the standardized exams required for the admission to a German institution of tertiary educa-tion.

The TestDaF consists of four exam parts: Reading Compre-hension, Listening Comprehension, Written Expression and Oral Expression. For an admission to a German insti-

tution of tertiary education, you will usually need a TDN 4 in all four parts.

In this course, you will get to know the exam format and train your skills in every section. Usually, the requirement for participation is a completed B2-level.

DSH Preparation Course

The DSH is one of the standardized exams required for the admission to a German institution of tertiary education. The DSH consists of the following parts: Reading, Structures of Academic Language, Listening, Writing and an Oral Exam.

For an admission to a German institution of tertiary educa-tion, you will usually need a DSH 2, which is calculated from the performance in all five parts.

In this course, you will get to know the exam format and train your skills in every section. Usually, the requirement for participation is a completed B2 level.

The courses will be held by a highly experienced DSH lec-turer.

telc C1 Hochschule Exam Preparation Course

In our telc C1 Hochschule exam preparation course, you will get to know the content and the exam format of this language test.

The courses will be held by a telc examiner.

Most universities accept this exam for admissions as an alternative to other language tests (e.g. TestDaF).

In order to take part in this preparatory course, a B2 level completed with a “good” must be presented.

The course contains the C1 level and the telc C1 exam preparation.

The advantage of telc C1 for tertiary education is that exam dates can be booked individually and the evaluation takes place faster than with other exams.

Furthermore, the exam places are not limited.

telc Language Exams

Genius Academy for Education and Languages is an accredited test centre for telc exams.

These exams can be taken directly at our academy. telc exams are standardized. They are offered in the entire EU and are being marked centrally.

We offer telc exams at various levels (A1-C2), for everyone who wants to proof his language knowledge through a stan-dardized and officially recognized exam. For university appli-cants, professionals in medicine and health care (doctors, dentist, nurses and care givers) as well as other professionals and academic staff, please read the following information:

Please note:You should register as early as possible for your exam. For registrations less than 30 days before the exam date we have to charge an extra fee (30€). Registrations less than 10 days before the exam date are not possible.

telc German B2: exam for learners on an upper intermediate level. Participants are able to communicate clearly and with a wide variety in vocabulary. A good knowledge of German grammar is also required. Price: € 160

telc German C1 for university: exam for university applicants or people that want to work in the academic field to proof knowledge in academic German on an advanced level. Par-ticipants are able to communicate spontaneously and flu-ently, as well as they can discuss and understand long, abstract and complex texts. telc German B1·B2 for health care professionals: exam for professionals in the field of nursing and health care, made for participants seeking employment in Germany. With this exam the participants proof adequate competence in medi-cal German. The certificate is official recognized. Price: € 190

telc German B2·C1 for doctors: exam for doctors seeking employment in Germany. This exam is based on the required communication skills in order to communicate with patients and colleagues. Work & Study

In our Work & Study Program the participants learn the German language in their chosen language course for the duration of a minimum of 24 weeks.

After reaching B1 level (Genius or telc exam is required) the work & study participant will begin a full or part time job which Genius will arrange for him/her.

During the language levels A2 and B1, the Genius work & study team will prepare the student for the job interview and assist with his/her CV and motivation letter.

The benefits of the work & study program include the prac-tical experience with an employer in Germany, the oppor-tunity to use the language outside the language course, and the payment for the working hours or other financial benefits the employer provides (for example free accom-modation for the duration of the work).

Demi-Pair

The demi-pair programme is suitable for language stu-dents who would like to live with a guest family and are prepared to assist the family with light housework or child-care.

For the duration of a minimum of 20 weeks, a student with experience in the field of childcare (“babysitting”) lives with a guest family and assists them with tasks in the home or with the child / children. The benefit of this program is to receive free accommodation with half-board for the period of assistance in the family.

The required language level for this program is B1. It is pos-sible to stay with the guest family before the program starts.

A host family not only offers a comfortable room, which – according to the category – you can have for yourself or share with another student, but also the advantage of essentially being part of a family from Heidelberg or its surrounding area.

You can benefit from shared hours with your host family, which also enables you to train and improve your commu-nication skills almost simultaneously or enjoy the comfort of a shared breakfast or dinner if you want.

Just like with our courses and the different services we offer, there is one thing we pay attention to when it comes to accommodation: quality.

We want our customers to be satisfied in every aspect. This is why we value the right mixture of privacy and together-ness when it comes to accommodation.

Our longstanding experience has shown that a large num-ber of students prefer having their own bathroom and opportunity to cook as opposed to shared community rooms. However, most students do not want to miss out

on a sense of community and the proximity to their class-mates when away from home completely.

A further aspect which we considered when choosing our rooms, is the proximity to the school, but also to the inner city and shopping opportunities when it comes to every-day needs.

We decided to use fully equipped rooms in which students can feel at home during their stay, while also being able to study and find a place to rest.

University Advisory Services

Our advisory service may be used according to your per-sonal requirements and your study plans.

Together with you we will review your options and provide you with realistic evaluations of the chances of success of gaining a place at the university of your choice.

After reviewing your documents and your personal data, you will be able to take part in the first consultation with our staff.

This is where we inform you of whether you need to provide further documents and if the documents provided are sufficient for application to a university.

In the next step, we will evaluate which universities you can start applying to.

As soon as we‘ve received feedback from one or more universities, we will support you in accepting the study place and matriculating.

Our Services

Provisional Admission Services (“Conditional letter”)

We offer university application sup-port for our students that need a pro-visional university admission for their visa application.

We check the application documents and assist with the preparation of application documents for up to two universities.

Check of the motivation letter and CV are included.

The processing time for the individu-al universities can take between 6-10 weeks

Fee: € 550 + university fees

University Advisory Services

Our service includes a documenta-tion check and help selecting your chosen universities.

We offer a special price for three uni-versity applications and the CV cor-rection together with the motivation letter.

Fee: € 300 + university fees

Visa and Resident Permit Services

We offer our students requiring a visa all services they need after arrival.

We take care of all bureaucratic matters, such as registration at the city hall of Heidelberg, collection of all required documents and the visa application process itself.
