African Penguin

• There are 17 different kinds of penguins. The female penguins lay 2 eggs. Penguins can’t fly.
• African penguins have a up side down “U” on their bellies. They are 2 feet tall and weigh between 7 and 11 pounds. They live in south Africa.
The African Penguins are also known as black footed penguins. The scientific name for the African penguins is spheniscus demersus.
• They walk and slide on their bellies.
• They typically have a white stripe encircling a black cheek and throat.
• They also have featherless pink areas around the eyes.
• When they lay eggs they are green.
• They eat fish shrimp krill and squid. They have to protect their eggs from predators. Like sea birds and seals.
