COLD IN JULY A FILM BY JIM MICKLE
By the director of WE ARE WhAT WE ARE (Sundance 2013, directors’ Fortnight Cannes 2013), STAKE lANd
Based on Joe R. lansdale’s cult-classic novel
With Michael C. hall (dexter), Sam Shepard (Mud, The Assassination of Jesse James, days of heaven) and don Johnson (django Unchained, Miami Vice)
Cold in July tells the story of Richard Dane, a small town frame builder from East Texas who is forced to kill a man in self-defense. He then meets Ben Russel, a rough ex-con and the father of the man Dane shot, who is hell-bent on avenging his son’s death. But small town corruption and paranoia turn these bitter ennemies into unlikely allies, as the two guilt-stricken fathers begin a search for truth, aided by Dane’s tough minded wife and a pig-raising detective from the back-woods of Houston. Before it’s all over, they uncover a bigger secret, darker and more dangerous than any of them could have imagined.

MR. KAPLAN A FILM BY ALvARO BRECHNER
By the director of BAd dAy TO GO FIShING (Cannes Critics’ Week 2009)
Jacob Kaplan lives an ordinary life in Uruguay. Like many of his other Jewish friends, Jacob fled Europe for South America because of World War II. But now turning 76, he’s become rather grumpy, fed up with his community and his family’s lack of interest in its own heritage. One beach bar may, however, provide him with an unexpected opportunity to achieve greatness and recover his family’s respect in the community: its owner, a quiet, elderly German, raises Mr.Kaplan suspicion of being a runaway nazi. Ignoring his family’s concerns about his health, Jacob secretly recruits Contreras, a more loyal than honest former police officer, to help him investigate. Together, they will try to repeat the historic capture of Adolf Eichmann: by unmasking and kidnapping the Ger-man and secretly taking him to Israel.

“A tense, darkly comic and surprisingly esoteric revenge tale in the tradition of the Coen brothers’ Blood Simple, the new movie displays Jeremy Saulnier’s serious capacity for complex genre cinema.” INDIeWIRe
“Rarely has the relationship between vulnerability and blind violence been this intelligently constructed, producing so much intensity within humor that reaches almost to the point of burlesque,
while also succeeding entirely as a pure thriller...” lIbeRaTION
“The backwoods-gothic terrain may be familiar, but the jolts are doled out with an expert hand in ‘Blue Ruin,’ a lean and suspenseful genre piece.” vaRIeTY
“If the directors Fortnight is intent on championing superior genre fare then they have found an ideal candidate in Blue Ruin.” SCReeN
“Besides the fact that I doubt we’ll see a more deft, thrilling genre film this year, I’m very pleased that Jeremy Saulnier’s Blue Ruin addresses a number of issues that revenge films have been overlooking
for decades.” TWITCH
