On the 22nd of November 2011AFL Representative Andrew Cad-zow was in Samoa running thefirst annual AFL Level 1 Coachingand Umpiring Workshop a course

that ran from 9am till 4pm. Thecourse helped our enthusiasticteachers understand the game ofAussie rules and train them in howto coach their students. This pro-gram also trained them in how toumpire games of AFL.The day was a big success with25+ teachers turning up from allour rural based schools that offerAFL in their school sports pro-

    gram.

The biggest thing lacking in Samoa atthe moment is a shortage of Umpiresand Coaches. With this course com-pleted we now have accredited level 1AFL teachers in schools who can now

umpire games at tournaments. SaidAFLSamoa Development Officer GabelStathis.

The next refresher course will be held inearly 2012. Watch this space to secureyour spot!
