‘Drive to the Game’ RoundThis weekend we feature the second ‘Drive to the Game’ Round in the TAC Cup. Thanks to the support of our valued partner the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), learner and P-plate drivers are encouraged to drive to the Round 16 triple-header clashes at both RAMS Arena and Mars Stadium this weekend. Throughout the season we encourage players to drive to the game as a regular pre-match ritual, and that parents and their children are talking about Driver Safety on a regular basis. The ‘Drive to the Game’ rounds highlight this point, especially for all six regional TAC Cup clubs driving on country roads to Ballarat this weekend.
To coincide with the ‘Drive to the Game’ Round, TAC has launched an E-Learning Module to help educate parents regarding their learner and P-plate drivers via a quick online questionnaire. Parents play an important role in driver education and we want to ensure they are well equipped to understand the challenges their kids are facing as they tackle the roads for the first time or start to face road use unsupervised on P-plates.
Primarily, the TAC E-Learning Module off ers excellent advice for parents to help them guide their P-plater to drive safely during the high-risk first six months as a solo driver, where they are 30 times more likely to be involved in an accident. The advice provided will benefit parents with learner drivers as well.
All TAC Cup parents who complete the module will have the chance to win two tickets to the 2017 Toyota AFL Grand Final, so we encourage them to take part in this great new initiative from TAC. Details are on the TAC Cup website.
Finally this week, congratulations go to a number of milestone men over recent weeks in the Peter Jackson VFL. Two former TAC Cup players in Ben Jolley (Calder Cannons) and Toby Pinwill (Oakleigh Chargers) have recorded 250 and 200 games for Williamstown and Port Melbourne respectively, while their respective current coaches in Andy Collins and Gary Ayres have both taken the reins in their 200th match. All four have a long and rich history in our competition and we acknowledge their milestones and contribution to our game.

Season 2017 has been all about learning and mentoring for Laura Bailey. Both on and off the field, the Senior Constable and St Kilda Sharks player has been sharing knowledge and working as a team.
Aft er a stellar run playing for the Western Bulldogs in the inaugural AFL Women’s competition, Sen Const Bailey returned to St Kilda keen to help others.
“There were approximately 13 AFLW players who returned to St Kilda,” she said.
“We had access to world-class facilities, trainers and experts and brought that all back to our club. Other players were asking us for advice and we could share the experience we’d learnt.”
And it’s already paying off .
“One hundred per cent the VFL Women’s game has stepped up this year aft er AFLW,” Sen Const Bailey said.
“People are going to the gym more, learning off each other and the knowledge is being passed down.”
Victoria Police off icers attended the Round 11 clash between St Kilda Sharks and Eastern Devils to encourage fans to consider a career in policing and answer questions. Leading Senior Constable Michelle Dench, a former football player, and potential police dog recruits four-month-old Benz and eight-month-old Devil were a hit with the crowds. The recruitment team will be back in Round 13 at Box Hill Hawks vs Melbourne University on Saturday August 19.
Sen Const Bailey admitted it was initially hard to fit into a diff erent team structure upon her return to the Sharks but said she still had great support around her from Sharks teammate and policing colleague First Constable Georgia Harris aft er going through the whirlwind AFLW season with First Constable Courtney Clarkson at the Dogs.
“Policing can be a demanding job and it’s good we’re both able to support each other,” she said.
Const Harris started playing footy with the Sharks three years ago, and said her police
station Forest Hill was really supportive.
“All the boys like to come along to games when they’re out that way,” she said.
“I love the variety of policing, you never know what you’re going to get. That, and being part of a team, and the great comradery, translates to footy.
“When we’re on the ground we’re focused on our roles and what is expected of us, off the field we’re all mates and have a laugh.”
Aft er the AFLW season, Sen Constable Bailey swapped Fitzroy Station Police for a role in Family Violence, where she’s learning from others.
“It’s very rewarding being able to follow through with victims and get them help,” she said.
“In footy AFLW is my priority but I see policing as a career for life.”
Victoria Police is recruiting more than 3000 new members over four years. To learn more about how you can be a force for good, visit www.policecareer.vic.gov.au.

Williamstown celebrated captain Ben Jolley’s 250th senior
VFL match in style with a 71-point defeat of Werribee. He may have ‘only’ managed 13 disposals and five clearances against the Tigers but the evergreen 31-year-old is remarkably leading the Seagulls for total handballs, disposals and uncontested possessions in 2017.
250
Plenty of players starred inside 50 in Port Melbourne’s 160-point win against Coburg, but key forward
Jordan Lisle – now one goal off the ‘Frosty’ Miller Medal pace – had the most scoreboard impact with seven goals, two behinds and two score assists, just ahead of the dangerous Blake Pearson who kicked 4.1 and had five assists.
7
Essendon’s grit helped it overcome Box Hill’s late push and triumph by six points in
Round 17. The Bombers held the Hawks to just three behinds in the final quarter despite conceding 38 more disposals, with Michael Hartley (seven rebound-50s), Jordan Ridley (five) and Aaron Francis (four) proving to be rocks in defence.

Cats find their clawsInjury and suspension at both AFL and Peter Jackson VFL level has worked to cruel Geelong’s VFL season, but the Cats gained some reward for effort in their Round 17 triumph over Richmond.12th-placed Geelong were four wins and percentage behind the fift h-placed Tigers going into their clash at Simonds Stadium, but a range of unsung Cats tackled their way to a seven-point win.
13 VFL-listed players took the field for Geelong on Saturday, with injuries to the likes of AFL stars Joel Selwood, Mark Blicavs and Nakia Cockatoo as well as suspensions for Mitch Duncan and Tom Hawkins taking a toll on depth at VFL level, not to mention last week’s season-ending knee injury to the club’s leading VFL disposal-winner James Tsitas.
But hard-nuts s uch as Tom Atkins (a team-high 14 tackles), Sam McLachlan (12), Ben Moloney (eight) and Dan Capiron (eight) helped the Cats win the tackle count against Richmond 100 to 77. Their grunt created the biggest statistical diff erence in a match in which Geelong narrowly lost the disposal, contested possession, clearance and inside-50 counts.
2016 club best-and-fairest winner Atkins demonstrated his importance in just his second match back from a hamstring injury that had kept him sidelined since Round 7, also recording team-highs for disposals (22), contested possessions (16) and clearances (nine). McLachlan leads the Cats for total inside-50s this season, Moloney is their top-ranked player for total tackles and Capiron is no.1 for total marks.
All have made a consistent impact in 2017, while other VFL-listed fixtures of the team in recent times also contributed against the Tigers: Sam Dobson kicked a goal from 15 disposals to add to his club-best season tally of 21 majors, Geelong’s leading defensive rebounder this year Jake Edwards held down a key post in the back line and Ben Reid continued his excellent debut VFL season running off half back.
The victory also gave youngsters Campbell Floyd, Luke Webb, Callum Mitchell, Trent McMullan and Bendigo Pioneers top-ager Brent Daniels some winning senior experience, while 20-year-old James Gow was important with 18 disposals, 12 contested possessions and four clearances in his 15th VFL match.
The Cats have found their claws in the face of adversity.

belatedly got her side on the board with a snap out of a pack but the damage had been done.
The Cats need to win their last two matches and keep their fingers crossed on other results falling their way to make finals, while the loss all but closes the door on the Spurs’ hopes of ending their five-year top-four drought.
In other Round 12 results:
- Melbourne Uni all but sealed a finals berth with a comprehensive 70-point win over Cranbourne. The Mugars took the match out of the Eagles’ reach with a six-goal-to-one second quarter and cruised to a 12.13 (85) to 2.3 (15) win.
- Darebin was at its merciless best in defeating top-four rival St Kilda by 62 points. The win was spearheaded by a seven-goal performance from Katie Brennan, as the Falcons triumphed 14.4 (88) to 4.2 (26).
- Diamond Creek escaped with a seven-point win over the Box Hill Hawks in one of the most exciting matches of the season. The second-placed Creekers twice skipped out to a four-goal lead only for the fledgling Hawks to show their growing maturity in fighting back. Diamond Creek won 9.4 (58) to 8.3 (51) but Box Hill left Plenty War Memorial Reserve with the knowledge it can match it with the best.
- The Eastern Devils broke a six-game losing streak with a 67-point win over Seaford. The move of veteran defender Meg Hutchins into the forward line proved decisive as she kicked four goals in the 14.13 (97) to 4.6 (30) victory, which left the bottom-placed Tigerettes still searching for their first win of 2017.
The Swisse Wellness VFL Women’s finals race is hotting up with one challenger making a late charge and another falling out as Geelong, Melbourne Uni, Darebin, Diamond Creek and the Eastern Devils recorded wins in Round 12.As Callum O’Connor reports, the Cats aren’t giving up their finals chances without a fight, storming over the top of the VU Western Spurs in the second half to win 6.5 (41) to 1.3 (9) at St Mary’s Oval.
With the mathematical top-four chances of both sides on the line, Geelong piled on six goals to one aft er half time to record its first win of the season over a side higher on the ladder.
A strong south-easterly breeze howled across the ground in the first half to make eff ective disposal diff icult. The Cats failed to kick a goal with the wind in the opening quarter as fanatical performances from Spurs’ defenders Ash Guest, Danni Teasdale and Tara Morgan prevented Geelong from making the most of its tall forward line.
But the same rang true for the Spurs in the second quarter. Renee Garing continued her outstanding form for the Cats in the back line and was supported by Richelle Cranston and Maddie Boyd, whose height and versatility caused the Spurs headaches all around the ground. Spurs forward Sarah Jolly sprayed a set shot on goal from the top of the goalsquare to leave her side three points in arrears at the main break.
In what proved to be a turning point, Spurs midfielder Shelley Scott limped from the field with a knee injury halfway through the second term. For the Spurs – who went into the match missing six of their best 22 – the loss of Scott was a blow.
Geelong restructured its forward line in the third quarter and blew the game open in a five-minute burst. Their forwards started much higher and ran back into the open space as midfielders Lily Mithen and Hannah Burchell wrested control. Between the six and 11-minute mark, Kate Darby (twice), Boyd and Michelle Fedele booted goals on the run. Darby added her third late in the quarter to blow the three-quarter time margin out to 33 points.
Any faint hopes the Spurs had were dashed in the first four minutes of the final quarter when Boyd pulled down a strong mark to convert her second major, emphasising the aerial dominance Geelong had enjoyed all day. Spurs midfielder Angelica Gogos

TAC Cup Round 15 Review
TAC Cup Round 15 was full of thrilling results, including the bottom-placed Western Jets toppling the ladder-leading Oakleigh Chargers by six points. The Chargers (now 2nd, 12-3) looked to be on their way to a 10th straight win when they went nine points ahead six minutes into the last quarter at Burbank Oval, but Western (now 11th, 4-11) wasn’t done with. Blake Graham and then Toby Kopa slotted majors to help the Jets snatch the lead before they held onto it for eight tense minutes until the final siren.
Cameron Rayner was instrumental in recording team-highs for disposals (23), tackles (11), clearances (eight), inside-50s (eight) and goals (two) for the victors, while his captain Luke Hitch was also important with 18 disposals, seven tackles and seven inside-50s.
In another six-point thriller, Jesse Firebrace nailed a set-shot goal just before the final siren to help the Calder Cannons (9th, 5-10) sink the Northern Knights (7th, 6-8-1) at Preston City Oval.
Firebrace also kicked the behind that levelled the scores in a low-scoring contest shortly before, while bottom-agers Jack Bytel (24 disposals, two goals), Lucas Cavallaro (13 disposals) and Ismail Moussa were all named among Calder’s best players in the victory.
The GWV Rebels (10th, 4-10-1) joined the Cannons in the race for eighth position with a fast-finishing six-point triumph over the Murray Bushrangers (3rd, 10-5) at Ikon Park.
The Rebels trailed by 43 points at the last change but produced eight goals to Murray’s solitary behind in the final quarter. Aiden Domic topped a complete performance (28 disposals, seven inside-50s, four goals) with GWV’s first three majors of the last term and Keegan Gray added two of his own, before Jordan Johnston scored the goal to put the Rebels in front for good with three minutes to play.
In the fourth Round 15 thriller, the Eastern Ranges (6th, 8-7) held off the Sandringham Dragons (4th, 10-5) by seven points at Box Hill City Oval.
The Ranges broke open a slog that was tied at half time with only three goals apiece on the scoreboard to lead by 15 points midway through the last term. With Harrison Nolan steady in defence and Jaidyn Stephenson (39 disposals, nine inside-50s) dynamic,
Eastern was then able to fight off Sandringham’s late challenge.
The Geelong Falcons (1st, 12-3) celebrated becoming the first club to play 500 TAC Cup games by reclaiming top spot on the ladder with a 64-point defeat of the Gippsland Power (8th, 5-10) at Morwell Recreation Reserve. The Falcons restricted the Power to just one goal in the first half, as Gryan Miers starred with six goals for the match and Sam Walsh (37 disposals, 10 clearances) won the ball at will.
Also in Round 15, the Dandenong Stingrays (5th, 10-5) accounted for the Bendigo Pioneers (12th, 3-12) by 89 points at Shepley Oval, with Riley D’Arcy’s four goals and Hunter Clark’s 32 disposals proving important in the win.

Dandenong moved the football in exciting fashion during its 89-point defeat of Bendigo. The Stingrays had
38 more handballs than kicks and recorded 175 handball-receives (73 more than the Pioneers), led by Mornington product Hunter Clark (17 handball-receives) and Rosebud junior Reid Nanscawen (13).

Western’s superiority in the contests was crucial in the bottom-placed team’s upset six-point win
against the ladder-leading Oakleigh Chargers. The Jets won the contested possession count by 12, primarily driven by hard-nut Werribee Districts bottom-ager Jaden Rice (14 contested possessions).
12
Jesse Firebrace was the hero of Calder’s six-point triumph over the Northern Knights. Not only did the 164cm Craigieburn junior kick a game-levelling
behind and then the winning goal just before the final siren, he laid a team-high seven tackles as the Cannons importantly won the tackle count by four.

Stats Central
Rebels rock MurrayThe GWV Rebels haven’t enjoyed a season as good as last year’s semi-final campaign, but some of their best talent helped produce a big comeback victory in Round 15.The 10th-placed Rebels shocked the third-placed
Murray Bushrangers by six points at Ikon Park two
weeks ago, piling on eight goals to just one behind in
the final term to come from 43 points down at three-
quarter time.
19-year-old ruckman Lloyd Meek and 184cm forward
Jordan Johnston were GWV’s only players to
represent Vic Country (in one match each) at the recent
NAB AFL U18 Championships, but other talented
Rebels are showing what they’re capable of in the TAC
Cup.
Top-ager Aiden Domic played close to a complete
game against the Bushrangers. The skilful and hard-
running 185cm utility recorded team-highs of 28
disposals, 18 kicks, 13 contested possessions, seven
marks, seven inside-50s, four rebound-50s and four
goals – including the first three majors of the last
quarter to kick-start GWV’s big run.
The only player to have been named in the team’s best
players more times than Domic this year is his captain
Callan Wellings. The over-age midfielder was again
among the most influential performers against Murray
with 23 disposals, seven marks and one goal, and the
eff iciency of he and Domic at the contests and in front
of goal helped the Rebels kick a winning score from
just 293 disposals (42 less than the Bushrangers).
Others to help GWV win the crucial contested
possession count (by six) and clearances (by five) were
Trent Reed (16 disposals, 11 contested possessions,
five clearances) and Aaron Shepherd (14, nine, four).
These top-agers have all played important parts in
the club’s four and a half wins this season, but Talent
Manager Phil Partington said earlier this year that 2017
was always going to be diff erent to 2016.
“I think last year we had a very high-end talent base
– certainly with players like Hugh McCluggage and
Jarrod Berry,” Partington said. “This year we’re going to
be a lot more even across the board.
“We’re just hoping the boys will be really competitive in
games and from that, a few boys might pop their heads
up and become draft able players.”
Callan Wellings has been one of the
GWV Rebels’ most consistent players

Rebels relive only flagThe GWV Rebels will this weekend celebrate the 20-year anniversary of their only TAC Cup premiership. All past Rebels players have been invited to the reunion at Mars Stadium during Sunday’s triple-header of R ound 16 TAC Cup games in which GWV takes on the Dandenong Stingrays – coincidentally, the team it beat by 35 points in the 1997 decider.
Sydney AFL champion Adam Goodes won the medal for best-on-ground that day, while other future elite-level veterans Shane O’Bree (Brisbane and Collingwood – now Geelong’s VFL senior coach), James Walker (Fremantle) and Shannon Watt (North Melbourne) were also part of the flag-winning team along with current North Ballarat VFL senior coach Marc Greig. Garry Fletcher was the victorious head coach.

Blind and vision-impaired Victorians will have the opportunity to participate in Australian Rules football next season, following a funding announcement from VicHealth’s Innovation Challenge on Wednesday.AFL Victoria’s inaugural AFL Blind program is one
of six projects that have been chosen as part of
VicHealth’s $500,000 Innovation Challenge: Sport
program, which supports new initiatives that help less
active Victorians to take part in sport activities.
In conjunction with Blind Sports & Recreation
Victoria and AFL, AFL Victoria’s AFL Blind project will
strive to develop an adapted version of Australian
Rules football for the Victorian blind and impaired
community.
AFL Victoria FIDA Football & AAA Programs Manager
Tim Nield said VicHealth’s support will help continue
AFL Victoria’s commitment to make Australian Rules
football the most accessible sport for all Victorians.
“There are approximately 1.1 million Victorians who
have a disability, with only 1 in 4 participating in sport
and recreation compared to 3 in 4 of the general
public, so VicHealth’s funding is extremely important
in helping us rectify these figures,” Nield said.
“We are excited to work alongside Blind Sports &
Recreation Victoria, AFL and key industry experts in this area to help us develop the AFL Blind program which we believe will help increase the physical activity levels of inactive Victorians with disability.
“AFL Victoria has a number of disability programs which off er people with disability the opportunity to participate in our great game, and through VicHealth’s support, we will now be able to extend our programs to allow any Victorian with any disability the chance to play Australian Rules football.”
VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter congratulated AFL Blind and the other winning projects for identifying new opportunities to get more Victorians taking part in physical activity.
“VicHealth is proud to support such exciting and innovative concepts like AFL Blind. We know that being more active is good for the health of all Victorians, however there are certain barriers including age, disability and skill which prevent people getting involved,” Ms Rechter said.
“We’re excited to be partnering with organisations like AFL Victoria as they trial their programs and get even more Victorians active in new and creative ways.”
Blind and vision impaired Victorians keen to be part of the first-ever AFL Blind program should contact Tim Nield at [email protected] to register their interest.

Club Notes
PORT MELBOURNE
We were able to commemorate a memorable occasion – Gary
Ayres’ 200th game at the helm of the Borough – with a memorable win against Coburg last Saturday! Our boys overcame a slow start before at one stage booting 24 unanswered goals on their way to a whopping 160-point win! Obviously an all-round team eff ort, but seven goals to Jordan Lisle now places him just one goal off top spot in the race for the ‘Frosty’ Miller Medal; and subsequently adds an extra layer of intrigue to the final two weeks of our home-and-away season. It’s another milestone to celebrate this weekend, as our inspirational skipper Toby Pinwill chalks up his 200th Senior game in the red and blue. Toby is obviously a champion player, champion leader and a champion person who will go down as one of our all-time greats. Here’s hoping we can get the win for him on this special day and possibly lock up a top 4 spot in the process! A special mention to our Development League team! Their win last week off icially cemented a top 2 / double chance position; and a win over the Hawks today in their final home-and-away game will see them finish on top of the table. Last Saturday night also saw us play host to a tribute event for the legendary Fred Cook. A big thank you to Tony Ebeyer, Bradley Mullen and Cameron Towson for all their eff orts in organising what was a wonderfully successful evening, with lots of funds raised for Fred’s cause. Best of luck to both sides today, and in particular our amazing skipper in his 200th game!
BOX HILL HAWKS
Round 17 saw the Box Hill Hawks travel to Windy Hill for the VFL match of the round. In what was a windy aff air, the
Hawks started the better of the two sides aft er a fantastic opening term. Essendon kicked back to lead at half time, before the game turned into a tight contested aff air. With the scores locked at 83 apiece, Essendon kicked a late goal to claim a 6-point victory. Captain David Mirra was influential in the back half, whilst Andrew Moore continued his impressive first year in the brown and gold. Our VFL women’s side also played away from home with a trip to second placed Diamond Creek. In what was arguably their best performance of the year, the girls pushed Diamond Creek until the final siren, going down by 7 points. Kristy Stratton, Emily McIlvena and Jayde Van Dyk were all named amongst the best players on the day. This weekend, our VFL women’s team play their final home game in their inaugural season playing hosts to Melbourne University. Our VFL men’s sides take on rivals Port Melbourne on Sunday, with development action kicking off the day from 11am before the senior game at 2pm. If you can’t get to either game, be sure to follow all the live action on our twitter feed @boxhillhawks or broadcasted live on 3WBC Radio 94.1FM.
COLLINGWOOD
Welcome to the penultimate game of the home & away season as we face Geelong in a must
win clash. Aft er a big win last week it’s great to be back in the Top 8 with finals now in our own destiny. Well done to Gus Borthwick for his 5 goal performance last weekend, a career high for him. Next week we are back at the Holden Centre for a huge clash against Port Melbourne. This match will likely decide our finals fate so we need as many supporters as possible to come down and cheer the boys on. The game will also act as a curtain raiser for the AFL clash v Melbourne over the road at the MCG so let’s get a huge crowd down for the 10:45am kick off . As always we look forward to your exceptional support throughout the season, getting right behind your VFL Magpies at games and online. Be sure to stay tuned to collingwoodfc.com.au for information about our team throughout the season. You can also get involved on twitter with @CollingwoodFC @VFL @7VFL #vflmagpies #PJVFL

WILLIAMSTOWN
What a Sunday it was at Burbank
Oval last weekend! Not only were
we able to celebrate three major
milestones (Ben Jolley’s 250th, Andrew Collins
200th VFL game as coach & Jack Dorgan’s 50th)
with a big win over western rivals Werribee, we
also went top of the table, and our Development
team made their way into fourth spot on the
ladder with a great win also! This week we face
one of the toughest road trips in the VFL as we
head to Casey Fields to take on the Demons, with
a top two finish and home final assured, now
we need to continue our winning ways to lock in
the minor premiership with two rounds to play.
With a home final locked in for the weekend
of the 2nd and 3rd of September, we will be
filtering out information over the next fortnight
as to game time, President’s Luncheon, activities
and more so keep an eye on williamstownfc.
com.au for updates. Also please note that with
next Saturday’s clash with Footscray now being
broadcast live on Channel 7, the game time has
changed to 2.10pm, this has meant that our
Development clash with Coburg has now been
moved to Burbank Oval at 10.00am. Go Seagulls!
NORTHERN BLUES
Round 18 sees the Northern Blues senior VFL and
development sides face Werribee at Preston City Oval. The Northern Blues seniors were unable to break their Casey Fields hoodoo, whilst the development side had a gutsy win to keep their finals hopes alive aft er defeating the Demons by 10 points. Both matchups against Werribee this week are crucial in terms of playing finals footy this year. Get involved in today’s matches on twitter with @NBluesfc @VFL #WeMarchNorth. Club Notes
DANDENONG SOUTHERN STINGRAYSLast weekend our club was represented well at the Vic Country Futures round, with 8 players getting the opportunity to get a taste of what it takes to make the next level.
2018 looks promising for Vic Country, with a strong depth of players across Victoria making it hard on selectors next year. This weekend we look forward to another road trip as we take on the Greater Western Rebels at the newly named and redeveloped MARS Arena, Ballarat which is part of the Country triple header. The game is a must win for the club, with all our players knowing we need to win to control our own destiny for the upcoming finals. This is only the second time this season where we have had nearly a full list to choose from, we’ve exposed 57 players to TAC Cup football thus far and potentially 1-2 more before the season ends. The final three rounds we look to steady the ship in order to play deep in the TAC Cup finals. Locally in the Outer Southern Region many clubs started their Junior finals last weekend, with the Senior competitions coming to an end this weekend. We wish all players, clubs and leagues the best of luck over the coming weeks. Finally, as we come to the end of one season the potential 2018 squads are in full swing, with games in September deciding the final numbers for all squads. We take the time to thank our wonderful development and support staff who have watched over 500 local games of football, writing up scouting reports on just as many players along the way. Without your “extra” eff orts we can’t build the strong lists each year to produce very strong TAC Cup players- so again, thank you. #Rayscave17
GEELONG FALCONSPrior to the bye weekend, we headed to Morwell to play Gippsland in our 500th TAC Cup match. We are the first Club in the competition to reach this milestone, and this is an achievement we are incredibly proud of. Our boys started very strongly, with a ten goals to one
first half, and there were a lot of contributors to a very even team performance. Gippsland fought back in the third quarter to outscore us, but we bounced back in the last quarter to consolidate a strong win. Gryan Miers was outstanding with six goals, whilst bottom-agers Sam Walsh and Blake Schlensog played great games through the midfield. Adam Garner and Frazer O’Gorman also chipped in with three goals each, whilst Tom McCartin roamed the forward line all aft ernoon with ten marks for the match. During the bye round, we also had members of our squad participate in both the APS/AGS representative game, and the AFL Victoria Futures Match. Well done to all these boys! Notably, Connor Idun captained the Vic Country side in the Futures Match, and acquitted himself very well in the role from all reports. This Sunday 20 August, we travel to Ballarat to play Murray as part of the TAC Drive to the Game Round. We encourage all our players to drive to the game, and make sure you bring your log book for the chance to win five free driving lessons. For all updates, please visit the Geelong Falcons Facebook page, our Instagram account (@geelongfalcons) or our twitter account (@geelongfalcons).
GIPPSLAND POWERAft er defeating the Falcons in round nine, Power were confident they could get once again beat the in-form side at their home ground in Morwell. Unfortunately, Geelong were too strong and
ran away with a 10-goal win. Congratulations to Boadie Motton, Rylan Henkel, Levi Munns, Irving Mosquito, Bailey Beck and Xavier Duursma who were involved in the Victoria Country Under 17 Futures program last week. Vic. Country convincingly defeated Vic. Metro at IKON Park, with 5 of our boys participating in the game. Unfortunately, Duursma was injured and unavailable to play. This weekend all the country teams play their round 16 fixtures in Ballarat, which sees Gippsland Power come up against the Bendigo Pioneers for the second time this year. As both teams are fighting for a finals spot, it is sure to be another great game of TAC Cup football. Please check our website ([email protected]) for information throughout the season, Facebook page (Gippsland Power Football Club), Instagram (@gippslandpowerfc) and Twitter page (@Gippsland_Power) for photos, results and score updates.
BENDIGO PIONEERSWe look forward to travelling to Ballarat to play at Mars Stadium on Sunday where we meet Gippsland
Power. Following a couple of disappointing performances over the last two rounds we look positively to this week with an improved performance expected. Congratulations to all boys who played at VFL or Development Leagues level over the past few weeks. Great experience for you all and some good performances to match. Matt Harvey and Darby Henderson at Williamstown Development Team, Brent Daniels at Geelong VFL with a win against Richmond as a curtain raiser at Simonds Stadium, and Lewin Davis enjoying a good game and close win for Essendon against Box Hill at Windy Hill. Great to see past players performing well at VFL level including those at Collingwood Kayle Kirby (VFL Leading Goalkicker), Marty Hore (Combine invitation), Lachie Tardrew along with Kobe Mutch at Essendon. We would like to thank the Geelong Football Club for allowing our Pioneers players to train at VFL level throughout the year. Special thanks to Nathan Tweddle VFL Manager for the work he does in making this happen very seamlessly. We welcome back our private school boys this week and look forward to seeing them again in Pioneers jumpers. Geelong Grammar – Caleb Sheahan, Brent Daniels, Paddy Dow, Lochie O’Brien, Jarrod Brander, Jye Caldwell and Inji Fyfe from Scotch College. Well done to all players who received invitations to the Combines, Jarrod Brander, Paddy Dow, Lochie O’Brien, Brent Daniels, Angus Schumacher, Kane Farrell, Bailey Henderson, Cooper Jones, Derek Smith Jnr and Lewin Davis. Belated congratulations go to Jarrod Brander and Paddy Dow for their selection in the AFL U18 All Australian side, very deserving for both of you. Remember to follow us across social media on Facebook (facebook.com/BendigoPioneers) and instagram@pioneersbendigo. Good luck to all teams this weekend. Go Pios.
CALDER CANNONSThe Calder Cannons faced the Northern Knights last round with both teams fighting it out right through until the end, with the Cannons coming away with the four points. The Cannons were down to two rotations at half-time due to injuries,
making the win much more valuable than four points to the Calder boys, with resilience and willingness to compete a highlight of the day. The Calder Cannons would like to welcome the TAC Cup competition to RAMS Arena this weekend for the first of three triple headers in the coming three weeks being hosted at RAMS Arena. As the race for the remaining few finals positions heats up and the TAC Cup season drawing to end, the Cannons will be looking to play a major part in the results of upcoming matches. Tune in on twitter @CalderCannonsFC, Facebook at Calder Cannons Football Club, and Instagram @caldercannons to ensure you get the latest news, events, photos and stories. The Cannons are also in the news every Wednesday night on 98.9 North West FM’s Pathway to the Top from 5pm-6pm. Alternatively, please visit the Calder Cannons latest news page online at SportsTG to read up-to-date news, articles and stories. Go the mighty Cannons!

OAKLEIGH CHARGERS
A disappointing loss last round in windy
conditions at Williamstown against the Jets has
given our group plenty of incentive to bounce
back this when we take on traditional rivals, the
Sandringham Dragons. The result showed that ladder position
counts for little when you play against an outfit that are fully
committed for four quarters, and handled the conditions far
better than our outfit on the day. We will again be tested this week
against one of the quality teams of the competition, our group are
looking forward to the challenge, and keen on returning to the
winners list. An upside to last weeks result was the form of first
gamers Lucas Westwood, Ubil Chol and Dylan Williams, playing
his second match at TAC Cup level. We look forward to hosting our
final home game at Warrawee next weekend, where post match
we will be conducting our 2nd Reverse Raff le Draw for the year.
A big thanks to our 2017 sponsors, our major partner, Bendigo
Bank Murrumbeena, The Phillips Foundation, Camberwell Toyota,
Mulgrave Country Club and Concept Logistics.
WESTERN JETS
The Western Jets are off to RAMS Arena to take
on the Northern Knights this weekend. The
Jets will be hoping to emulate the last round
performance where we were able to defeat the
then top of the table Oakleigh Chargers. Today’s
game against Northern shapes as a pivotal clash for both sides
who are fighting out to finish in the top 8 with three rounds
remaining. Last time the sides met in Round 1 Northern just got
over the line by 12 points, hopefully we can even the ledger at one
all for the season. Congratulations to Western Jets trio Lachlan
Fogarty, Cameron Rayner and Tristan Xerri who have all been
selected to test in the upcoming combines. Lachlan and Cameron
will test at the AFL National Combine whilst Tristan will test at the
State Combine. Cameron was also recently named runner up for
Vic Metro’s best & fairest for the U/18 National Championships.
Congratulations to the boys on wonderful achievements. Please
remember to check our website (westernjets.aflvic.com.au),
Facebook page (Western Jets FC), Twitter page (@WesternJetsFC)
and Instagram (@westernjetsfc) for up to date vision, information
and scores.
MURRAY BUSHRANGERSA massive thank you for the parents and supporters who travel around the state supporting the Murray Bushrangers each and every week. Well Done to Bushies
who played in the Futures Game last weekend, Kyle Clarke, Hudson Garoni, Ajak Dang, Mark Marriott and Phillip Solomon from Seymour. Last Game we travelled to IKON Park for our clash with Greater Western Victoria Rebels. The late withdrawals of key defenders saw a restructuring to the lineup. Aft er playing consistent football to amass a 43 point lead at the final break; the Rebels were able to gain momentum and deservedly came away six point winners. Defenders Nick Murray and Jacob Koschitzke were excellent under enormous pressure. Murray in just his third TAC Cup game and Koschitzke returning aft er injury. Daniel Johnston again stood tall kicking 4 goals to lead the competition. This Sunday, we trek to MARS Stadium in Ballarat to play Geelong Falcons in the first of a triple header for the venue on the day. The venue will host the Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide AFL clash the day prior. Please support our local sponsors - YARRAWONGA MULWALA GOLF CLUB RESORT, AFL SPORTSREADY, DYSONS, DUNSTANS CONSTRUCTION GROUP, RELIANCE PARTNERS, SEYMOUR MCDONALDS, BYRNE REMOVALISTS AND STORAGE and THALES. Good luck to all teams this weekend.
GWV REBELSThis weekend the GWV Rebels are proud to host the TAC CUP triple header for Round 16 of the 2017 TAC CUP. We welcome the Geelong Falcons, Murray Bushrangers, Gippsland Power,
Bendigo Pioneers and Dandenong Stingrays to our newly upgraded facilities at Mars Stadium. We’re lucky enough to play on this AFL Venue just one day aft er the Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide have played off for ladder points on Saturday. Prior to the bye the Rebels experienced one of their best wins in several years. The Murray Bushrangers seemed too strong in the first three quarters, going into the rooms at three quarter time 43 points up. Suddenly the tide changed, the Rebels boys with a spark in their legs came out to play coming from a massive deficit at three quarter time to defeat the Murray Bushrangers by just one goal. A great eff ort was put in by both sides and we’ll look to continue performance when we take on a strong Dandenong outfit on Sunday. Hopefully we can see much more football of a similar quality during this weekend’s triple header. We also welcome all past Rebels players and staff to our Rebels Reunion today, ironical that we are playing the Dandenong Stingrays which is a rematch of the 1997 TAC CUP Grand Final which saw the North Ballarat Rebels win their first premiership in the competition. We hope all ex players and staff have a great day. A big thank you to all the competing clubs today for their work in making todays TAC Drive to the Game promotion a success. These little things the TAC and the clubs do to educate our players and parents each year will hopefully make our roads safer as we aim to get Towards Zero. A reminder to the Rebels community that a date for our 2017 Presentation day has been set on Sunday the 8th of October at St Patricks College. This will be a great opportunity to reflect on our 2017 season and we hope that many friends and family can make it along to the event. For more information and to book your tickets please jump online http://ballarattickets.com.au/event/3310. No bookings can be made through the club only online through the above website.
NORTHERN KNIGHTSThis week the Northern Knights take on the Western Jets at RAMS Arena. Today is a fantastic opportunity for the boys to bounce back aft er our loss to the Cannons. We look forward to a great contest
between the two sides. Congratulations to Max Dreher, Mark Baker, Alex Federico and Joel Naylor who have been invited to the State Draft Combine. Also Matthew Harman has been invited to the Rookie Me Combine! Further congratulations to Brody Bell, Ryan Bowkett, Braedyn Gillard, Thomas Hallebone, Tom McKenzie and Kareem Nasser who played in the U17 Futures Game. Also Patrik Della Rocca, Max Dreher, Christian Farchione and Alex Federico who took part in the School Representative Game for AGSV. The Knights would again like to thank Technika, a leading producer of high quality kitchen & laundry appliances, for their 6th year as Major Sponsor of the Club. We thank them for their generous ongoing support of the talent pathway in the Northern Metropolitan Region. Finally a big thank you to all who attended our Parents and Sponsors Lunch. Special thanks to guest speaker Luke Power. We have the best sponsors and parent group in the TAC Cup.
