The door of the car opened and OliverRobinson stepped onto the rain-slickedLondon street, his street. He strodethrough the front door in the manner of aman who owned the joint, he was allowed

to of course because he did. Oliver builtthe Naughty Hellfire club, situated inLondons Kensington district a year agonow on a site and in an area that wascheap, real cheap and real dirty. Every-one said he was mad, that there weremuch better places to open a club or evensome established ones that could easilybe procured by a man of his standing. But Oliver being Oliver wanted what hewanted and that was always what he got,and since that opening night, well would-nt you just know it, the club and thewhole damn district has developed andimproved no end. Oliver never says so butI know he always likes the idea that hesmade his mark on the capital.

I followed him into the club with Lucas;wed had to take care of a bit of business, some low grade miscreantas Olivercalled him named Freddy Hayes who had-nt done as he was told. It was cold andwet out and I was more than happy to beback in the warm, looking forward to a

Brandy (The club always served the bestBrandy, Oliver insisted). This place always amazed me; it wasnever what you expected, a bit like Oliverhimself I suppose. Ive been in my fairshare of burlesque houses and theyre al-ways sleazy no matter how much moneysput into the place; you can feel it, it getsinto the walls, the furniture, hell even thegirls, you can even taste it when youdrink in those places. The Naughty Hell-

fire club though that was anything butsleazy, the furniture looked pristine, there were no unsightly marks on thefloors or walls. The air, although smokywas never confining or uncomfortable,

even the jazz music that was played bythe live band seemed somehow warm andcomforting. Some had called it the Palaceof the Underworld, they were wrong to ofcourse, it was better than a palace.

We sat down at our usual table and oneof the serving girls brought us drinksover. As she left Oliver paid just enoughattention to see Lucas stutter and stum-ble his way into asking the girl out, hedliked this one for a while but while hewas a good looking lad and confident ineverything else he had a real problemtalking to women, still it appeared thathed finally taken our advice and justgone for it, or as Edward would sayDont just stare at pretty girls, try talkingto the damn things, she accepted ofcourse with a shy little smile, thoughthen again was she really going to say no.He was grinning like a Cheshire cat whenlooked again at Oliver and me.

    Olivers attention however was elsewhere.

Making her way to the table was LadyJohanna Paige. The club always came toa standstill when she walked through.

The clientele just stared longingly at her;in the past some had learned that any-thing else could illustrate just how un-ladylike she could be. To say she wasbeautiful was an understatement; shewas like a walking Michelangelo sculp-ture, sometimes I had to wonder just howlucky I was to get to talk to her.

As she reached the table we followedOlivers lead and stoodMy lady, Oliver always addressed her assuch,Goods sirs, please sit, I trust you had a

nice time?We all sat, you couldnt sayno to a voice like hers.

Realising that nobody had replied to herquestion I spouted, Freddy didntOh, how is he?She asked in a mannerthat suggested she felt sorry for Freddy,we all knew she was after the gory de-tails.

Lucas was more than happy to obligeHell find it very difficult to steal any-thing from now on without any hands.Poor lad, he cant be very happyshesaid again in that seemingly sympathetictone. On the contrary my lady, hes smilingfrom ear to earLucas responded indicat-ing hed applied his personal touch to theproceedings

Oliver seemed to stir whos here?I was wondering when youd ask

Johanna repliedWed seen Oliver do this before; he

seemed to know when someone uninvitedwas in the club, when someone was inhis club.

Johanna explained, Edward is showingDetective Adams and his fellows around, they seem to be labouring under the im-pression that murder has been commit-ted here. Theyve been here for sometime, its becoming a trifle annoying.

Olivers gaze flashed to the stairs that al-lowed access to the upper floors. As weall turned, several Bobbies came march-ing down swiftly followed by the perma-nently disgruntled figure of DetectiveRichard Adams and then our own Ed-ward King. Adams clocked Oliver straightaway and, pushing his own goons aside, marched over to the table where we weresat. Oliver stood to greet the man; I dontknow why he insisted so much on thisgentlemanly behaviourcrap, particularlytowards a man who continually botheredOliver as much as Adams did.

So nice to see you again Detective, can

we help you with anything today?

Not today thank you Mr. Robinson, thedisdain in his voice was clear,Oliver paid it no heed Ciaran, would youmind showing Detective Adams Wherethe door is.

Its alrightAdams barked, Dont troubleyourselfhe grumbled as he turned to go.The detective hadnt walked more thanten foot from the table when Oliver ad-dressed us. Ciaran, get Bobby to removeMr. Rogers body from the Loft and dis-

pose of it as he sees fit, its beginning tomake the place smell.

Even now Im amazed at how Oliver gotaway with the things he said but thats

just typical of Oliver and typical of theclub. Take this last little story as an ex-ample, the police come looking for oldRogersbody, they look in the Loft wherehe just happens to be, centre stage tied toa chair going moldy in just his under-wear, and they leave having not found athingEdwards called this place thevanishing room before now; I dont reallycare what its called I just know I love theplace.

    The Nine

The Nine is the name coined by OliverRobinson to denote himself and his clos-est associates, although the police aresomewhat at a loss to explain why onlyeight individuals including Oliver himself

can be attached to the group. Oliver hasnot seen it necessary to inform the rest ofthe Nine who the mysterious 9thmemberis either and they appear to be just as inthe dark as the local constabulary.

The first member of the Nine is obviouslyOliver himself. He is the most influentialmember of London (and perhaps Eng-lands) criminal society. A deeply patrioticman, he has been known to turn downrequests for certain jobs so as to not de-stabilize the economy. The London metro-politan police force have been trying topin anything they can on Oliver for sev-eral years but they never seem to manageto find any evidence linking him to eventhe smallest of crimes. If the truth beknown, London is much better off be-cause of Olivers presence, he actuallywants to improve Britain and more oftenthan not gives more money to variouscharitable associations and institutionsthan he takes from crimeOf course hehas no problem taking anything he wants

    from other countries.

Lucas Moore is the second member of TheNine and Olivers closest friend and confi-dant, despite the large age gap (Oliver be-ing 35, Lucas a tender 21). Although thishas more often than not worked as an ad-vantage with Olivers tempered patiencecombining with Lucass seemingly limit-less enthusiasm and energy. Most peoplecannot understand why Oliver and Lucas

get on so well, some think of the two asthe King and his prince, that Oliver looksto Lucas as a son. This is perhaps thefurthest thing from the truth. Oliver al-ways thinks of Lucas as his equal be-

cause deep down they both have a viciousstreak that runs a mile wide. It is whenthis surfaces that Lucas become truly, and unexpectedly, deadly.

Ciaran OReilly is primarily a driver of theutmost skill, a native of Ireland he trav-eled to London to find his fortune. Heonly succeeded in finding his way into abare-knuckle fight against Bobby Lough-lan in order to win money to live. It wasan unfair match up given the extremesize difference between the combatantsand one that should have ended Ciaranswalking days (as was so often the casewith Bobbys opponents). The Irishmanwas harder than he looked however, andput up one hell of a fight. He still lost ofcourse, but the performance was enoughto convince Oliver that he was worth em-ploying. Since that time he and Bobbyhave struck a firm friendship.

Robert BobbyLoughlan is the true pow-erhouse of the Nine. An ex bare knuckle

fist fighter Bobby is built like the prover-bial brick shithouse, aside from this mostuseful asset Bobby has a more question-able talent, he is a cannibal. There arecertain members of the Nine who find thisaspect of his character to be disturbing tosay the least; however, as Oliver remindsthem its one of the best ways to get rid ofa body.

left after he realised that he could makefar more money running the illegal gam-bling dens that he raided every week. Heleft America and traveled to London for,as he puts it, a fresh start. He saw his

fair share of ugliness on the New Yorkstreets and this has lead to him beingemotionally detached, or as Ciaran likesto say It wasnt an iceberg that sank the

    Titanic, it was Chrisheart.

Oliver met Lady Johanna Paige in Europeduring the closing days of the Great Warwhen he saved her honour and dignitywhen retreating enemy soldiers attackedher. Since that time they have been virtu-ally inseparable, even more so in recenttimes. Johanna has always been good atknowing what others where thinking, al-ways claiming it to be womans intuition, however she has of late proved to be farmore accurate than mere intuition shouldallow.

Edward King is an English blue bloodthrough and through and if truth beknown he is not that far removed fromthe thrown itself. It is because of thisconnection that he is often, wrongly, as-sociated with the Night Royals. Edward

loves the hunt, something instilled in himwhen he was very young. Since that timehe has become an expert marksman andhunted every dangerous creature thatcould be mentioned, including his newpersonal favourite, man.

Giovanni Camparelli is the newest addi-tion to the Nine, he is Italian mafia sentby the Contedorri to act as an ambassa-dor between the Italian family and the

British gangland. He is not totally trustedby the rest of the Nine, in particular Ed-ward King (though thats probably be-cause hes a Bloody Foreignermorethan anything else), but he has proved he

is a valuable asset on more than one oc-casion.

The Naughty Hellfire club is Londonspremiere burlesque house and Gen-tlemens club for the underworld. Its cli-entele is predominantly the upper class ofthe British Isles criminal fraternity (Oliver

does not tolerate the uncouth behaviourthat the standard British criminal usuallyholds with)

It is a three-storied building in LondonsKensington District. The surroundingarea is gaining a reputation for (relative)safety and success, with all manner ofbusinesses most notably those involvingfashion showing tremendous profit

The club is also Sanctum Sanctorum toOliver Robinson. He discovered the siteon which he would build the club shortlyafter he became inspired. The site was ina bad area and the land was consideredto be very poor quality for building, how-ever against all recommendations Oliverpurchased the area and built his club.

Only Oliver truly understands the areastrue qualities. The club is unidentifiablyconnected to its owner and vice versa, though even Oliver is unsure as towhether the club is sentient as such.

Whatever is happening in the club Oliveris aware to an extent, if someone entersthe club uninvited he would know thatsomeone was in the building but hewould not necessarily know who it was.

Furthermore it would seem the clubwishes to protect Oliver and his interests.Anything can happen in the club and ifOliver does not wish people to know theywont. An entire audience who have wit-

nessed a murder taking place in the mid-dle of the Girls around the Worldshowwill leave with no memory of it except thebeautiful girls, or a police raid will walkstraight past a man holding a still smok-

ing pistol in one hand and a sign exclaim-ing I did it!in the other.

The Ground floorUpon entering the club, patrons are pre-sented with a stylish foyer, which con-tains the cloakroom.

The main room consists of the stage, seating and a well stocked bar. There isalso a side room with a large boardroomtable used for meetings. The ground flooralso contains a small but adequate

    kitchen.

The 2ndstoryThis is the accommodation for the Nine. Each member has a room and there arealso several guest rooms. There is also alarge communal area for relaxing.

The LoftIf there are criminal activities going on atthe club, they usually take place in thearea known as the Loft. The area is bareconsisting of wooden floorboards and raf-ters and dirty brick walls. The room is litduring the day through large half moonwindows and at night from three lightbulbs that hang bare from the ceiling.

The only long term occupants of the roomare a simple (but sturdy) wooden chairand table, a few packing crates, oily ragsand some (nearly) unidentifiable stains.

before trading gangland warfare for ser-vice to King and Country in the GreatWar. Upon his return home, now withLady Johanna as his aide, Oliver foundLondon to be a vastly different place withmany of his old enemies now dead orsimply gone (in truth many left for Amer-ica) and never one to waste an opportu-nity Oliver seized control of the majorityof the underworld and established him-self as the eminent British crime lord.Olivers inspirational powers peakedwhen an attempt was made on his life.Oliver met Maxwell Anderson Mercer inMay 1923 and since that time has dis-played more of an interest in helping thedenizens of London and England as awhole. Due to this he has begun to gain aRobin Hood-esque reputation, Oliverfinds this amusing as most are unawareof the methods used to procure themoney he gives away.

Background:Growing up for Lucas was a hard fight allthe way. He came from a poor family andwas a sickly child. His father left him andhis mother when he was 6 and this re-sulted in pushing his mother, already an

alcoholic, over the edge; both proverbiallyand literally into the Thames. He wasplaced into an orphanage where he wasbullied until he fell ill and was taken tohospital where he was expected to die. While there a nurse would read to himand the other children. He became enam-ored with tales of the old west and in par-ticular the outlaw Billie the Kid. Againstall expectations, Lucas recovered andstrove to be more like his hero. Upon hisreturn to the orphanage he took his re-venge on his former tormentors in uni-maginably cruel ways for a child of hisage, since that time Lucas hasnt lookedback.

bushy moustache, curled up at each endand a pipe usually dangles from hismouth. His figure is slightly gaunt andhis features angular giving him the all toomenacing look of the big cats he loves tohunt himself.
