ADVERTISEMENT PROJECT With your group, you will design and publish an advertisement for a real or fictional product to be sold in Seattle during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-1898. You may use the computer to design and publish your ad, create it by hand, or use a mixture of methods. It must fill an 8.5 x 11” piece of paper. Color is not required, but attention to detail is. What do you know about audiences’ age, gender, geographical location, education, professional position, and so forth? What does the audience already know about the issue or idea? What will the audience want to know about the issue or idea and information will interest the audience? What feelings does the audience have on the issue? Your grade will be determined using the following categories. More specific requirements can be found in the rubric. CONTENT - What product will you try to convince your customers is a necessity to their “outfit” for the trip north to the Klondike. What types of products would have been necessary for a year long expedition through snow and ice to Alaska and back? How will you sell this product effectively? DESIGN – The advertisement has to utilize some of the layout and design elements of the original advertisements we looked at in class in order to achieve historical relevancy. How will you grab potential customer’s attention with your ad? With your group, you will design and publish an advertisement for a real or fictional product to be sold in Seattle during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-1898. You may use the computer to design and publish your ad, create it by hand, or use a mixture of methods. It must fill an 8.5 x 11” piece of paper. Color is not required, but attention to detail is.
