Council is holding a Community Planting Day to help improve our natural environment while allowing residents and community members to get outdoors, have some fun and meet new people. The event is on Sunday 6 May and more information is listed below.
There is also an information session on retrofi tting your home, on Saturday 5 May. You are welcome to come along from 10.30am until 12.30pm, to the Vic Foster Reserve Pavilion at 16–23 Pines Way, in Craigieburn and fi nd out how you can retrofi t your home to improve its energy and water effi ciency. This session is free and bookings are essential on 9205 2200.
Growing your own fruit is easy. Our Council is also holding a Community Fruit Orchard Planting Day. To fi nd out more, come along to this event on Saturday 12 May. This event is being held as part of National Families Week and more information is listed below.
Mother’s Day is on Sunday 13 May, and I hope all mothers in Hume have a happy day. National Families Week is on from Tuesday 15 May until Monday 21 May, making it a good time to celebrate with your family. It is also National Reconciliation Week, from Sunday 27 May until Sunday 3 June. I wish you all a wonderful month in our city.
NATIONAL GARAGE SALE TRAIL
You could hold a garage sale with your whole street or your entire neighbourhood! Join the Garage Sale Trail on Saturday 5 May. Host a garage sale or simply visit one, in and around Hume City.
By taking part in this fantastic national event, you could free-up space at home as well as make some money. Selling your unwanted items, or items you no longer need, gives others a chance to appreciate them, while keeping them out of landfi ll. Preloved items for sale should be in good working order. 2012 GREENING PROGRAM – CALLING ALL GREEN THUMBS!
This May, Hume City Council’s Greening Program returns. The program involves local residents, community groups and schools in revegetation activities such as planting days.
Planting days help care for and improve our local environment. You are welcome to come along and join in the fun, meet new people and learn about our environment on Sunday 6 May. Come to The Tarnuk at the end of Wright Street in West Meadows at 10am (Melway ref 5G6). Afterwards, enjoy a BBQ lunch at 12pm.

Are you looking for a fun outdoor activity for the whole family? If so, you can be part of our Community Fruit Orchard Planting Day on Saturday 12 May.
Come along to the Goonawarra Community Garden, between 10am and 1pm, on the corner of Lancefi eld Road and Rolling Meadows Drive, Goonawarra. Enjoy family activities and a free lunch.
It is a great way to start National Families Week 2012, and celebrate the valuable role families play in helping children develop, learn and grow.
