The Irish thing about Mike was that he was garrulous. No, that does not mean he favoured a garru. In fact, if all you knew was that one was preter- naturally quiet and that the other was phenom- enally talkative, you wouldn’t even suspect them of being Irish. Which they weren’t, as far as I know. A reactor has oodles of bundles (I don’t want to sound too sci- entific). When used fuel bundles are removed, they are still highly radioactive, so they are stored in pools ̶ yes, like swimming pools ̶ near the re- actor. Water is an excellent barrier. Three days later, eastern Russia re- ported radioactive isotopes, and two days after that, the western seaboard of the United States ditto. The two NWMO reps at Bruce Hyer’s meetingwere named Pat and Mike. I am not kidding. This is not an Irish joke. The only thing Irishabout Pat was that he was taciturn ̶ beyonduttering his name, he uttered nothing. The Irishthing about Mike was that he was garrulous. No, that does not mean he favoured a garru.

In fact, if all you knew was that one was preter-naturally quiet and that the other was phenom-enally talkative, you wouldn’t even suspectthem of being Irish. Which they weren’t, as faras I know.

My point is, Mike was the one who fielded allquestions and provided all answers. Hyer mod-erated the Q & A. And all the information inthese posts comes from Mike and the literaturehe handed out. Well, literature may not be theword. But it was literate stuff, with words like“interim” and “deep geological”. And “reposi-tory”. There were a lot of repositories stuffedinto sentences. And no, repository is not a syn-onym of “suppository”.

Back to the question: What is this stuff?

At the centre of this issue are bundles 50 cm longand 10 cm wide, weighing 24 kilograms. Over 2million of them. A fuel bundle has uranium diox-ide pellets arranged in metal tubes called rods. Asingle bundle in a nuclear reactor can provideelectricity to 100 homes for a year. A reactor hasoodles of bundles (I don’t want to sound too sci-entific). FRESH COFFEEALL DAY

(NC) Besides taste-testing baked goods and treats during thebusy holiday baking season, children also love to get theirhands dirty and participate in the baking and cookie makingprocess. Whether it's helping mom frost her latest batch ofred velvet cupcakes for her work holiday party or learningthe family recipe for candy cane squares from dad, bakingis a creative outlet that many children enjoy during the hol-iday season.

When working in the kitchen with children, holiday seasonor not, it is extremely important to discuss safety tips foreveryone to keep in mind while whisking and rolling. Here, registered dietitian and baking enthusiast Cara Rosenbloomshares safety tips that every parent should teach their littleones.

Wait 'til they're baked. It's important to teach your little onesexactly why they shouldn't taste test any uncooked bakedgoods. When baking for the holidays, it is likely that you'reusing raw ingredients, like eggs. Remember that flour is alsoa raw ingredient that has been minimally processed andshould not be consumed unless baked or cooked.

Keep hands and counters clean. Good hygiene is very im-portant in the kitchen. Before, during and after baking any-thing this holiday season, make sure everyone involved iswashing their hands and properly cleaning any counter ortable tops that have come into contact with raw ingredients. This includes any surfaces where cookie dough has beenrolled out and cut into snowflakes or snowmen shapes.

Supervise children. While your child might want some inde-pendence in the kitchen and bake their own version of fam-ily-favourite gingerbread angel cookies, it's important thatthey understand some baking tasks are best left for adults.Whether it's dealing with a hot oven or plate or even a sharpknife, little hands should be kept away from these riskyrecipe steps.

Visit www.canadianmillers.ca for a fun and informative in-fographic detailing the flour-making process and additionalsafe handling tips for using flour when baking.

Just because you're stressed now doesn't mean that you need to be stressed tomor-row, or the rest of the day for that matter. There are steps you can take to soothe yourtroubled soul. Stop, close your eyes, and relax into some deep breaths. You'll be sur-prised by how refreshing these few moments can be. Why not try it?

Your tendency is to rush headlong into a new project. Not everyone is caught up inyour enthusiasm. Be careful not to steamroll over those you care about most. Yourpartner, especially, feels a bit miffed and left out at the moment. Do what you can tosoothe any ruffled feathers. It might be time to set aside your project in favor of a ro-mantic outing.

Out with the old and in with the new! That seems to be your mantra for the day, espe-cially where your home is concerned. Your energy and motivation are high. If anyonecan execute a complete one-day redecoration, you can. But even you can get hurtwhen trying to move a sofa by yourself. Enlist help, but be careful not to work themtoo hard. Not everyone has your energy!

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, as the saying goes. You're likely to receive somegood news today. Don't second-guess it, or worry if you're worthy of it. Accept it forwhat it is, though it might be worth taking some time to consider why you feel unworthyin the first place.

Are you one of those people who thinks that your bank account can't be overdrawnas long as you still have checks in your checkbook? As bad as you think your financialsituation is, your problems are easily reconciled. It's not that you're spending moremoney than you have, but that you're not keeping track of what you spend. Betterrecordkeeping will help ease your anxiety.

Today is good for relationships. Regardless of whether it's personal or professional, you can expect good things to happen. You may be called upon to participate in anunusual group project and strike up some potentially beautiful friendships. At homeyour mate may be especially thoughtful and demonstrative. You radiate an aura oflove and warmth, and people respond in kind.

You deserve a day off. Why not play hooky from your duties and surround yourselfwith beautiful works of art? Better yet, try to create some yourself. Admit it, you'vebeen hankering to try a creative endeavor. Why not begin today? Your creativity andintuition are at an all-time high. The combination might produce something of realmerit.

You have an exciting, intense day in store. Your curiosity is at a peak, and today itcombines with a vivid imagination. This makes you ideally suited for medical researchprojects, as it gives you the ability to make connections among seemingly disparatethemes. Regardless of your profession, you can expect to see the world in an entirelynew way today.

It's likely that you've been working too hard and too long. Don't you think the time hascome for a bit of a break? Even if you manage to drag yourself out of bed, you're un-likely to accomplish much. When your heart isn't in it, it's difficult for your mind to work.A few days of rest and relaxation will rejuvenate you. Perhaps you should take a shortjaunt out of town.

It's time to expand your horizons. No more waiting around for events to change oftheir own accord. You've grown up enough to realize that if change is going to happen, you have to make it happen. As a result, today is busier than most as you begin toexecute all those ideas you've been thinking about.

As much as you want to change your financial situation, don't act rashly. If there areseveral options to choose from, you're advised to refrain from making any decisionuntil your thoughts have crystallized. If you feel in a hurry to make progress, you canrecord your options so you have them to review in the light of a clearer day.

Try as you might, you may spend the better part of the day with your foot in yourmouth. It's one of those days when anything you say to clear up the confusion onlyconfuses matters more. You want to spend a fun evening with friends but fear you'llonly make matters worse. Your friends love you even on days when your social skillsaren't at their peak!

RYAN’S REVIEWS- The Star -

While nothing particularly special, “The

Star” clearly has its heart in the right place

and succeeds in appealing to the niche

audience it’s aimed at. The way it tells the

Nativity is relatively faithful, albeit with

some liberties because, well, it’s a family

film, and the characters range from

generic to decent. Plus, the humour, for

the most part, never goes into juvenile territory or anachronistic

pop culture references. The voice actor’s are all good, the sound-

track choices are never distracting and even the animation has

some appealing designs and backgrounds. It’s definitely aimed

at a specific audience, but if you’re of a religious demographic or

if you have small children, you might get something out of it.
