Think Of Your Own End Of Life
When was the last time you thought about your own death? I know, it takes extraordinary efforts and spirituality to think about our death nowadays. There are countless distractions around us including the rat race of making money, the endless entertainment possibilities on our computers, televisions and cell phones, our political sentiments and family responsibilities. Our lives have become so crazy and cozy that we rarely think about our own death, unless, of course, something tragic happens around us. But as a good mother, the Church never fails to draw our attention back to the inevitability of death and the shortness of life.
Towards the end of every liturgical year and at the beginning of Advent, the Church invites us not just to think of, but to prepare for the four last things or the eschatons: death, judgment, heaven and hell. She invites us to reflect on the second coming of Christ and the end of the world as we know it. During this period, all the readings at Mass focus on these spiritual realities. However, as a priest, I feel like these scripture words fall on deaf ears. I don’t get a sense that these warnings move us that much. Knowing how hard it is for me to think about these things, I can only imagine how difficult it must be for others. Yet everyday, we see lives ending around us. So we must make hay while the sun shines! We must courageously confront the imminence of our own end of life and the beginning of eternity.
Jesus said to his disciples: “There will be signs…. People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world… And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.” Then he warned them never to let themselves to be caught off guard. On the contrary, they must be fully engaged and ready at all times. “Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise like a trap” (Lk 21:25-36). Let’s face it, if these warnings do not move us, then we are drowsy, that means our relationship with Jesus is either dying, dead, or non-existent. So let us open our hearts to Jesus. Let us invite him to come into our lives. As he said to us, “…pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Entonces, abramos nuestros corazones a Jesús.

YOUTH MINISTRY
MINISTERIO JUVENIL
Its retreat week! This coming weekend our year 2 teens will be going up to the mountains for their confirmation retreat. This weekend is the weekend that really makes or breaks it for most teens. In other words, if teens aren’t already into their faith at all, then by the end of the weekend they will be on board or they really don’t care and aren’t open to their faith. There is so much that goes into this weekend that we have been preparing for since late October, but it is all worth it. There is something about going away for the weekend, unplugging from the world, and really focusing on our faith that just makes retreats so awesome! This weekend has so many elements that tie together and make this weekend so awesome but the biggest part is community. Community is key to a successful retreat in so many ways but mostly on retreat its being able to share your faith with people you know and trust. There is still so much work to be done but I am very excited for this weekend. Please join me in praying for our teens this week as we prepare for this amazing journey we are about to take together. Upcoming Events 12/5-Youth Group 12/6-Edge 12/7-12/9-Year 2 Retreat ¡Es semana de retiro! During the school weeks of Advent, several special events are on the calendar. On December 5th, the first trimester mission focus on The Archdiocese of Los Angeles Adopt- a- Family Program ends with Teddy Bear Day. We send hundreds of stuffed animals, lots of collected
candy, and the money raised through various events to Los Angeles with Monsignor Terry Fleming. Our 8th grade students will travel to The Cathedral during the coming school week to assist in the preparation of boxes filled with items donated by schools and churches throughout the Archdiocese.
During Advent, the students and staff meet weekly as eighth grade students lead us in prayer. Students in kindergarten, first, and second grade are practicing for the annual Christmas Musical under the direction of Mr. Steve Hinojosa, and every class will have a Christmas party before we leave for the two-week school vacation celebrating Christmas and the New Year!

Support the Retirement Fund for Religious.
A donor writes, “Your flyer touched my heart—seeing the retired religious, such memories surfaced.” Do you remember the sisters, brothers, or religious order priests who made a positive difference in your life? Today many are elderly and need assistance. Their religious communities struggle to meet retirement needs while continuing to serve the People of God. Please give to next week’s second collection.
