TOUCH PANEL
Projected Capacitive Touch Panel vs Resistive Touch Panel
VariPOS is equipped with the latest touch technology the world has to offer, the projected Capacitive Touch (PCT)Technology. Same as Apple’s iPhone and iPad device that brought this technology famous. We were the first manufacture in the POS industry to introduce this touch technology to the market where the others are hesitated on doing so due to cost reasons and stayed with the traditional Resistive Touch (RT) Technology. The top layer of the PCT panel is made out of glass (1.8 mm/0.07”). Where as the top layer of the RT panel is made out of a thin layer of plastic film (< 0.2 mm/0.007”). The PCT is not prone to scratch and the RT does. RT panels can be easily damaged by finger nail or pen cap over a period of usage. PCT does not have this problem. Hence, the durability is unmatched.

TOUCH PANEL
Statistical Data of Projected Capacitive Touch Panel
It can withstand 100 million times of finger press. 10 times more durable than resistive touch panel. It can withstand the impact of a 25mm (1”) diameter steel ball weighted at 67 gram (2.4 oz) being dropped at 30 cm (1’) above the PCT panel. It can withstand a static load of 5000 gram (11 lb).It can withstand a 7H hardness pencil with 750 gram (1.7 lb) of force at 45 degree angle.
The above lab tests are all far superior than traditional resistive touch panel!

HOUSING MATERIAL
Aluminum Housing vs Plastic Housing
VariPOS is designed with aluminum die-cast to house the product. It not only works as heat sink and help dissipate the heat produced by the CPU, it also look and feel robust and elegant compare to the traditional plastic housing. Imagine the cooling fan is down and there’s no alternate to release the heat trapped inside, it will kill the system in an instant.

MECHANICAL QUALITY
IP66 Certified by SGS vs Non Certified
VariPOS is well mechanically designed that it actually receives the certification for meeting the IP66 requirement from SGS. This is not a self-claimed IP rating as some maker in the industry are doing. Even with self claimed IP rating, they would not claim a rating higher than IP65, which is a level lower.
Most products in the market now will not meet the water and dust proof and do not claim to be able to meet it as well. By having the IP rated VariPOS, you can avoid the water or juice that accidentally spilled on the screen from entering the gap and damaging the system.

SCREEN DESIGN
Bezeless Deign vs Bezel Design
VariPOS’ screen is designed to be without bezel. This will eliminate the chances of dust and grease being trapped at the gap of the bezel and be difficult to clean. This can be a place the bacteria can grow. This is something I’m sure all restaurant owners would like to avoid. Having a bezeless design would take this variable out of the play completely. The screen can be easily clean everyday by wiping with a damped mop. Since the touch panel is made out of glass, a diluted detergent can be spray on and wipe off to clean if necessary.

MAGNETIC CARD READER DESIGN AND MATERIAL
Aluminum MSR vs Plastic MSR
VariPOS is integrated with magnetic card reader (MSR) that’s made out of aluminum also to match its body structure. Although this MSR is fixed to the main body by a single screw only, but this screw is actually strong enough to hold the entire VariPOS up if you were to lift it from the MSR. The traditional plastic MSR has a tendency of breaking from the body of the POS when cashier rest its hand and some body weight on it. This could be a potential dangerous working environment for the employee. Having VariPOS will again take this problem out of the play.

CABLE MANAGEMENT
Organized vs Messy
VariPOS was designed to achieve excellent cable management as we can’t see a product being called graceful and elegant with cables exposed and unorganized. VariPOS was designed to have the I/O ports facing up to allow the installation and maintenance personnel easy access to plug and strap the cables in place with the cable holder provided. Once the cables are in place, simply lay it into the neck of the stand and ultimately to the base of the VariPOS, which can be easily pull beneath the table to achieve a neat cashier environment.

HARDDRIVE PLACEMENT
Thoughtful vs Conventional
VariPOS’ harddrive (HDD) placement were designed with reasons. HDD is typically the weakest link of the whole system. So replacing a HDD from a conventionally designed product will take a lot of effort and tools. Typically would have to strip the product down to its electrical compartment. With the VariPOS, there’s no such thing. The HDD is conveniently placed under the I/O cover, which can be remove easily with bare hands. There’s only one screws the engineer will have to tackle with to replace the bad HDD.
Another reason of having the HDD out of the electrical compartment is because HDD is not good around high temperature. By locating the HDD away from the heat source, the entire VariPOS will be able to operate at a higher ambient.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
Aesthetic vs Plain
VariPOS was designed with aesthetic industrial design in mind. This is not an easy task considering putting all this electrical components into such a compact space. The POS out in the market now is typically about 25% ~ 65% thicker and bulkier in size than VariPOS. I’m sure the sleek yet graceful and elegant design of VariPOS will fit most retail shops and restaurants much better.
