PURE PACKMOBILE WATER TREATMENT SYSTEMProcess and produced water is a difficult filtration challenge with a wide range of suspended solids, particle sizes, and oil content from site to site. This typically means there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Pentair® Pure Pack Solution is the latest innovation from Pentair for process and produced water treatment that meets this challenge.

Systems like hydrocyclones and induced-gas flotation(IgF) require significant up-front investments andcontinued operational costs, all with a large footprint andperformance that is inconsistent and rarely cleans waterenough to meet specifications. Other solutions, such ascartridge and walnut filters can meet performancerequirements and have lower capital investment, butresult in high operational costs and possible downtimewith frequent change-outs. Others choose to outsourcethe problem and pay to transport water to be treated toan off-site disposal facility.

Pentair Pure Pack solution offers superior water quality with a smaller footprint and lower cost of ownership with little to no operator intervention or maintenance compared to conventionally produced water treatment solutions.. Pentair Pure Pack Solution can deliver consistent, high-quality treated water at variable flows (infinite turn-down capacity) even in the presence of large oil upsets. With oil content as high as 5%-10% at the inlet, Pentair Pure Pack Solution can still yield low ppm oil at the outlet, and the high-quality recovered oil may be processed or sold to recover value. There is no on-site sludge generation or management required.

CONTROL SYSTEM FOR REMOTE MONITORING

Pentair Pure Pack Solution tanks are rated for atmospheric pressure and a control system is used to monitor tank levels and system pressures. If the production environment has varying water flow, the controls will vary the speed of the outlet pump and keep the tank level at an appropriate level. Alternatively, if the inlet pump is used to draw from a holding tank, level transmitters used can be incorporated into the Pentair Pure Pack control system to maintain any minimum water level that may be required. The control system will coordinate operations when multiple systems are used in parallel, or added for redundancy. By using actuated valves, fresh tanks can be brought online without requiring operator intervention.

NO CHANGE OUTS

Pentair Pure Pack Solution is designed to eliminate downtime, as well as other challenges for the customer, such as filtration element replacement and disposal. Pentair will manage system maintenance, resulting in low effort refurbishment, continuous operation, and minimal labor by operators.

PENTAIR MOBILE, MODULAR AND SCALABLE SOLUTIONPentair Pure Pack Solution is comprised of two main components: a new particle filtration format in the form of a mobile trailer (the core of the new Pentair Pure Pack Solution), and Pentair proven Hydrocarbon recovery technology (HRT).

Pentair Pure Pack Solution is mobile, modular, and scalable to a wide variety of flow rates. Pentair Pure Pack atmospheric pressure rated tanks hold 500 barrels of liquid each and are outfitted with everything required to make the tank appropriate for transportation on a road. Once on-site, the tanks are immobilized, connected to the pump skid and automation system, and ready to operate. When a tank is near the end of its filtration life, Pentair will schedule a replacement fresh tank to be delivered and remove the spent tank. The off-site refurbishment eliminates significant operator labor common with other treatment technologies.

The tank is designed to balance absolute rated filtrationspecifications (Beta 5000) withultra-long system life. The ultra-long life directlytranslates to significantly lower operational costs for theend-user to treat produced water. Media sizing is tunableto the needs of the production facility and can provideparticle removal.

As part of the modular design, Pentair Pure Pack Solutions can grow or shrink to accommodate any capacity, from 100 gallons per minute to thousands. Systems can be sized with redundancy in mind, so additional spare tank(s) can be on-site and connected in a ready to operate state, also referred to as a “hot spare”; otherwise, fresh tanks can be connected to the system before disconnecting the old, ensuring continuous treatment.

Pentair Pure Pack Solution comes equipped with classified area-rated electronics, and can be equipped with flame arrestors and connected to a vapor recovery system if required.

Each tank includes a pump skid designed specifically forPentair Pure Pack tanks. The system inlet pump can be used to draw liquid into the filtration system if the wastewater is stored in a settling pond or holding tank, and can be bypassed if a site has a pressurized flow to treat.

CASE STUDYPENTAIR PROVEN SUPERIOR CONTAMINANT REDUCTIONAt a produced water disposal site, the system matched or exceeded the suspended solid removal efficiency of other technology, while extending life from a week to 10 weeks. During this period, inlet TSS was measured between 17 to 170 ppm and turbidity between 56 to 292 NTU. After treatment, the outlet quality was below 8 ppm and 9 NTU. By employing Pentair HRT technology, the oil content similarly can be reduced to levels as low as 1 ppm.

GRAVIMETRIC (TSS) TURBIDITY

Inlet(ppm)

Outlet(ppm) Efficiency Inlet

(NTU)Outlet(NTU) Efficiency

Sample 1 171.0 7.2 96% 292 4 99%

Sample 2 42.7 6.0 86% 67 5 93%

Sample 3 16.9 7.9 53% 56 9 84%

Sample 4 18.3 3.9 79% 77 6 92%

Sample 5 28.4 1.5 95% 135 9 93%

The table indicates high outlet quality and the inlet solid concentration and turbidity fluctuate over an order of magnitude, the outlet water was stable to a small percentage, and trended better over time. The outlet samples were taken before the HRT (liquid/liquid separation) stage. While the tank portion of Pentair Pure Pack does an excellent job at particle removal, it also removes roughly 60% of the oil due to a long resonance time, and improves performance in the coalescer. While the turbidity measurements of the tank outlet are significant, they are further improved upon in the HRT.

At the end of the installation life, the system had treated 131,000 barrels (20,800 m3) for USD $0.25 per barrel. During these months, the site did not have to dedicate operator time, stop treatment for maintenance, and carefully monitor system performance, and was not responsible for disposal or clean-up.

Actual performance may vary based on particular site conditions, including but not limited to, TSS (Total Suspended Solids) and PSD (Particle Size Distribution) of fluid and some contaminants such as waxes and chemical additives.
