Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing

Volume 747

Series editor

Janusz Kacprzyk, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Polande-mail: [email protected]

The series “Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing” contains publications on theory, applications, and design methods of Intelligent Systems and Intelligent Computing. Virtuallyall disciplines such as engineering, natural sciences, computer and information science, ICT,economics, business, e-commerce, environment, healthcare, life science are covered. The listof topics spans all the areas of modern intelligent systems and computing.

The publications within “Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing” are primarilytextbooks and proceedings of important conferences, symposia and congresses. They coversignificant recent developments in the field, both of a foundational and applicable character. An important characteristic feature of the series is the short publication time and world-widedistribution. This permits a rapid and broad dissemination of research results.

Preface

This book contains a selection of papers accepted for presentation and discussion atThe 2018 World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies(WorldCIST’18). This conference had the support of the IEEE Systems, Man, andCybernetics Society, AISTI (Iberian Association for Information Systems andTechnologies/Associação Ibérica de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informação),University of Calabria, and GIIM (Global Institute for IT Management). It tookplace at Naples, Italy, on March 27–29, 2018.

The World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies (WorldCIST)is a global forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss recentresults and innovations, current trends, professional experiences and challenges ofmodern Information Systems and Technologies research, technological develop-ment and applications. One of its main aims is to strengthen the drive toward aholistic symbiosis between academy, society, and industry. WorldCIST’18 built onthe successes of WorldCIST’13 held at Olhão, Algarve, Portugal, WorldCIST’14held at Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, WorldCIST’15 held at São Miguel, Azores,Portugal, WorldCIST’16 held at Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, and WorldCIST’17which took place at Porto Santo Island, Madeira, Portugal.

The Program Committee of WorldCIST’18 was composed of a multidisciplinarygroup of experts and those who are intimately concerned with Information Systemsand Technologies. They have had the responsibility for evaluating, in a ‘blind review’process, the papers received for each of the main themes proposed for the conference:(A) Information and Knowledge Management; (B) Organizational Models andInformation Systems; (C) Software and Systems Modeling; (D) Software Systems,Architectures, Applications, and Tools; (E) Multimedia Systems and Applications;(F) Computer Networks, Mobility and Pervasive Systems; (G) Intelligent andDecision Support Systems; (H) Big Data Analytics and Applications; (I) Human–Computer Interaction; (J) Ethics, Computers & Security; (K) Health Informatics;(L) Information Technologies in Education; (M) Information Technologies inRadiocommunications; (N) Technologies for Biomedical Applications.

v

The conference also included workshop sessions taking place in parallel with theconference ones.Workshop sessions covered themes such as (i) Applied Statistics andDataAnalysis usingComputer Science, (ii) Artificial Intelligence in Fashion Industry,(iii) Emerging Trends and Challenges in Business Process Management,(iv) Emerging Trends, Challenges, and Solutions in Infrastructures and SmartBuilding Management, (v) Healthcare Information Systems Interoperability,Security, and Efficiency, (vi) Intelligent and Collaborative Decision Support Systemsfor Improving Manufacturing Processes, (vii) New Pedagogical Approaches withTechnologies, (viii) Pervasive Information Systems, (ix) Technologies in theworkplace—use and impact on workers.

WorldCIST’18 received more than 400 contributions from 66 countries aroundthe world. The papers accepted for presentation and discussion at the conference arepublished by Springer (this book) and by AISTI (one issue in the Journal ofInformation Systems Engineering & Management) and will be submitted forindexing by ISI, EI-Compendex, SCOPUS, DBLP, and/or Google Scholar, amongothers. Extended versions of selected best papers will be published in special orregular issues of relevant journals, mainly SCI/SSCI and Scopus/EI-Compendexindexed journals.

We acknowledge all of those that contributed to the staging of WorldCIST’18(authors, committees, workshop organizers, and sponsors). We deeply appreciatetheir involvement and support that was crucial for the success of WorldCIST’18.
