INTRODUCTION

Construction industry is facing problems like-1.Low labour efficiency2.High accident rates3.Low quality of work4.Vanishing skilled workforce5.Time consuming6.Costly.

ADVANCED CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES

PRE-FABRICATION

CONTOUR CRAFTING

Page 5: Advances in Constructional Technology

PRE-FABRICATION

Practice of assembling the components of a building in a factory and then transporting them to the construction site for installation

Page 6: Advances in Constructional Technology

TYPES OF PRE-FABRICATED UNITS

Structural insulated panels (SIPs)

Insulating concrete forms (ICFs)

Prefab foundation system

Steel framing

Concrete framing

Large - modular system

Page 7: Advances in Constructional Technology

PROCESS OF PRE-FABRICATION

Industrial construction methodTwo stages:

1.Manufacture of components at factory2.Erection on the site

Precast units cast in advance and given time to harden

Units are concreted in stationary moulds Provided with ordinary reinforcement or pre

stressed with cables or wires Various components have to be erected

appropriately assembling them together

Page 8: Advances in Constructional Technology

ADVANTAGES OF PRE-FABRICATION

Construction time is shortened

Quantities of material required are reduced

Less manpower

Better quality of product

No weather restrictions for construction

Page 9: Advances in Constructional Technology

DISADVANTAGES OF PRE-FABRICATION

Leaks can form at joints

Transportation cost may be higher

Heavy duty cranes are required

Careful measurement and handling is needed

Structure may look drab and monotonous

Page 10: Advances in Constructional Technology

CONTOUR CRAFTING

It builds large scale three-dimensional parts by depositing paste materials layer by layer at unprecedented speed and with superior surface quality

Page 11: Advances in Constructional Technology

PROCESS OF CONTOUR CRAFTING

Method of layered manufacturing

Uses polymer, ceramic slurry, cement, and a variety of other materials

Mixes to build large scale objects with smooth surface finish

Done by method of extrusion

ADVANTAGES OF CONTOUR CRAFTING

Total material use is less.

Less transportation of materials, equipments and people.

Less noise exposure.

Increased structural strength and durability

Increased seismic safety

Page 15: Advances in Constructional Technology

DISADVANTAGES OF CONTOUR CRAFTING

Unsuitability of the available automated fabrication technologies

Smaller ratio of production quantity

Economic unattractiveness of expensive automated equipment

Managerial issues.

Page 16: Advances in Constructional Technology

CONCLUSION

Cost and time effective

Less manpower required

Good quality construction

Reducing accident and material wastage

Eco-friendly methods
