WHY IS AGRICULTURE MECHANICS

TECHNOLOGY IMPORTANT?

IMPORTANT BECAUSE. . .

It teaches important skills that can be used at home, in a

business, or for a hobby.

Many of the careers in agriculture involve agricultural

mechanics.

Agriculture is now so advanced that skilled people are

needed to maintain equipment and to keep productivity high

Advancements increased worker productivity by reducing

time required on a task.

EMPLOYMENT

Agriculture is the largest industry in the United

States and even the world.

It is believed that about 20-25% of nations

workforce is employed in agriculture.

With high advancements in Ag mechanics, a farmer

can produce enough food and fiber for 115 people.• It also made it possible for 2% of the population to

produce enough food for the country.

ADVANCEMENTS IN AGRICULTURE

These have had the greatest impact on society.• Cotton gin- Created by Eli Whitney, 1793

• Reaper- Cyrus McCormick, 1834• The first reapers cut the standing grain

and, with a revolving reel, swept it onto a platform from which it was raked off into piles by a man walking alongside.

• Steel Plow- John Deere, 1837• Soil in the west was harder and wood

plows kept breaking, Deere created this steel plow to till up the rough soil.

• Mechanical corn picker- Edmund W. Quincy, 1850• Before corn was picked by hand and

took a lot of people to harvest.

• Tractor- Benjamin Holt, 1904• Ran off of steam.

CAREERS IN AG MECHANICS

Electrician• Tradesman specializing in electrical wiring of buildings, stationary machines and related equipment

Machinery and Equipment specialist• Must be able to know about certain the machinery

and equipment• Be able to provide information to customers about

machine or equipment.

Soil Technician• are science technicians that monitor,

regulate and research soil in the United States.

Ecology Technician• Perform laboratory and field tests to

monitor the environment and investigate sources of pollution, including those that affect health, under the direction of an environmental scientist, engineer, or other specialist. May collect samples of gases, soil, water, and other materials for testing.

Tractor Mechanic• Tractor is running properly, and fix tractor

when needed.

VETERINARIAN

a veterinarian working with small animals, for example dogs,

cats, birds and reptiles, in clinical practice will: • diagnose animals' health problems• vaccinate their patients against diseases, such as distemper and

rabies• medicate animals suffering from infections or illnesses• treat and dress wounds • set fractures• perform surgery• advise owners about animal feeding, behavior and breeding• euthanize animals when necessary

FOOD SCIENCE TECHNICIAN

Under the supervision of scientists, agricultural

and food science technicians measure and analyze

the quality of food and agricultural products.

AGRICULTURAL INSPECTOR

Inspect agricultural commodities, processing

equipment, and facilities, and fish and logging

operations, to ensure compliance with regulations

and laws governing health, quality, and safety.

FARM PRODUCTS BUYER

Purchase farm products either for further

processing or resale. Includes tree farm contractors,
