Every successful independent school relies on strong annual giving. Like our peer schools, tuition revenue does not fully cover the cost of the extensive benefits of a St. Luke’s educa- tion. According to the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), independent schools raised an average of over $1,700 per student in gifts and grants in 2013-2014. Contributions to the St. Luke’s Fund are essential to the provision of a “margin of excellence” and limit tuition in- creases, keeping St. Luke’s within reach for as many fam- ilies as possible. As the major source of unrestricted gifts, the Fund supports the school’s outstanding curriculum and programs and allows our school leaders to explore exciting opportunities that may fall outside of the operating budget. Every successful independent school relies on strong annual giving. Like our peer schools, tuition revenue does not fully cover the cost of the extensive benefits of a St. Luke’s educa-tion. According to the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), independent schools raised an average of over $1,700 per student in gifts and grants in 2013-2014.

Contributions to the St. Luke’s Fund are essential to the provision of a “margin of excellence” and limit tuition in-creases, keeping St. Luke’s within reach for as many fam-ilies as possible. As the major source of unrestricted gifts, the Fund supports the school’s outstanding curriculum and programs and allows our school leaders to explore exciting opportunities that may fall outside of the operating budget.

The Foster family created the John R. Foster Scholarship Fund at St. Luke’s Episcopal School to honor the memory of an extraor-dinary man whose Episcopal edu-cation forged deep commitments to lifelong learning, service to

others, and worship in the Anglican tradition. This full-tui-tion, need-based scholarship is awarded annually to a new 6th grader with a demonstrated record of academic achieve-ment and a “servant’s heart.”

Since 2010, the Spring Scholarship Event Committee and St. Luke’s Advancement Office have collaborated with John and Bette’s son, singer/songwriter Radney Foster, to orga-nize an annual concert open to the San Antonio community to benefit the John R. Foster Scholarship Fund.

The St. Luke’s Book Fair raises funds to support the col-lection, resources, and programs for our beloved Newman Library, which currently houses over 26,000 volumes. Pro-ceeds from book fair benefit the library, helping to promote literacy and a love of reading in our students. St. Luke’s sup-porters also have the option of donating books to the library or fulfilling wish list requests of individual teachers.

The book fair is supported by Parent Council and the Ad-vancement Office in partnership with The Twig Book Shop.

Chairs: Margaret Gunn, Michelle Miller, and Adrian Sabom

St. Luke’s is pleased to partner with local restaurants and stores who give a percentage of their profits from St. Luke’s patronage on a designated day to the school. Our supporters can meet up with friends to eat, shop, and benefit St. Luke’s and our local businesses. A detailed calendar is available in the Giving section of our website.

Shopping and Dining for Dollars is a joint initiative between the Advancement Office and Parent Council. Profits are used by Parent Council primarily to support the teacher apprecia-tion program, and remaining proceeds are given to the annual fund.

Chairs: Kristina Collmar and Josie Dorris
