Ing. František Kopecký, Ph.D. et al. A Brief Monograph on the Fundaments of Transport Telematics

History of the branch

1990 – new technical terms TELEMATICS, TELEINFORMATICS, TRANSPORT TELEMATICS and

INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS AND SERVICES

TELEMATICS = TELECOMMUNICATIONS and INFORMATICS

Definition of telematics

Telematics is a systematically engineering branch, dealing with creation and purposeful use of the information environment for homeostatic processes from territorial units up to global network industries.

Definition of telematics

Transport telematics

INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS AND SERVICES

A separate scientific discipline aimed at integration of individual applications and systems supporting the entire transport process

Basic terms from the field of transport telematics

Applications

Subsystem, system

A system or subsystem is basically assembled on the basis of “wider” requirements, it therefore consists of a set of functional wholes, i.e. from applications with a view of providing of a set of services to users.

Architecture Architecture defines a basic

arrangement of the systems, subsystems and applications into function blocks.

Levels of telematics architecture:• European • National • Regional • Municipal (Local)

Architecture

Structure of the system

The structure of the system specifies, in its essence, the arrangement of applications, subsystems and of the system, it can be divided down to the level of individual elements.

Structure of the system Principle of the application structure

• Collection of information• Transmission of information• Processing of information

transmission and processing of information

Structure of the system

Example of distribution of costs in the ITS structure – non-systematic, application-based approach

Concepts

Example of distribution of costs in the ITS structure – system, conceptual

Concepts concepts must be subject to the long-term

plan for the solution of transport in the location in question

system-based solution features a direct impact on the economy of telematic systems (capital expenditure costs, operation costs)

exact time structure is a basic precondition for the drawing of means from various investment resources

Example of advanced telematic system

Controlling of mass public transport

Satellite navigation

Controlling of mass public transport

Position of the public transport coordinator

Levels:I. Control (operating) levelII. Organisational (tactical) levelIII. Planning (strategic) level

Control (operational) level of mass public transport controlling (1st level)

Organisational level of controlling of the mass public transport (2nd level)

Planning level of the mass public transport controlling (3rd level)

It fulfils functions of inputs into the land development and zoning plans.

The control room of a planning level has not been dealt with in any research project in the Czech Republic yet.

Satellite navigation The monitoring of the position of a

means of transport is an important feature in transport telematics.

The basic information for telematics systems is represented by the position of the means of transport.

Developing of advanced telematics applications allows the application of satellite systems.

Satellite navigation

European programme GALILEO

civilian global satellite navigation system

provide guaranteed navigation services

services: Open Services (OS) Commercial Services (CS) Safety-of-Life Services (SoL) Search and Rescue Services (SAR)
