What kind of graphics can you insert into a PowerPoint slide show?

• You can insert clip art pictures that come with PowerPoint.

• You can insert your own pictures from files.

• You can apply graphics files as backgrounds to your slides.

How do you insert a PowerPoint clip art picture? Click on Insert, then on Picture, then on Clip Art.

Browse through the categories of clip art to find the picture that you like.

Click on the picture of your choice and then click on Insert.

Adjust the size and add text boxes and text to complete the slide.

Helpful Hints on Sizing Your Pictures

If you drag diagonally on the corner handles, you adjust the size proportionally larger or smaller.

You can adjust the size of a picture by clicking on it and pointing at one of the 8 handles with the cursor. Hold and drag the mouse until it is the size you like.

If you drag up, down, left, or right on the middle handles, you will distort the picture.

Insert a blank PowerPoint slide.

Click on Insert, then on Picture, then on Clip Art.

Browse through the categories of clip art to find the picture that you like.

Click on the picture of your choice and then click on Insert.

Resize the picture by clicking on it. Then click on one of the handles and drag it diagonally or up and down or left and right to make it larger or smaller.

4. Browse through your computer’s hard drive to select a picture file. Highlight the picture you like and click OK and OK again.

PowerPoint likes EMF, WMF, JPG, BMP, etc. graphics file formats.

It will handle other formats if it has the correct graphics filter installed.

5. Click on Apply to apply that picture as background to the current slide or Apply to All to apply it to the entire presentation.

Quick Review Card:Applying a Picture as a Background to a Slide

Click on Format and then on Background.

Click on the down arrow below the Background Fill box.

Click on Fill Effects and then click on the Picture tab.

Click on Select Picture.

Then browse through your computer’s hard drive to select a picture file. PowerPoint likes EMF, WMF, JPG, BMP, PICT, etc. graphics file formats. It will handle others if it has the correct graphics filter installed.

Highlight the picture you like and click OK and OK again.

Click on Apply to apply that picture as background to the current slide or Apply to All to apply it to the entire presentation.
