Installing Oracle9iA new install of Oracle9i is required on the instructor machine and each student machine.

Oracle provides a utility called the Universal Installer (so-called because it looks the same onall platforms) that will walk you through the installation process. The Installer may start

automatically upon inserting the Oracle CD; if not, start setup.exe on the CD.

All defaults offered by the Installer can be taken, including installation of the STARTER

database. You should be presented a message indicating the install was successful and the namesand passwords of the initial userids. The name of the database and database instance will also be

displayed. This information needs to be noted and provided to the instructor.

    After installation, login to SQL*Plus with the SYSTEM userid and execute the following query:SELECT * FROM v$database;

A successful response from this query is another good indication that the installation wassuccessful.

If you have any questions, please call SkillBuilders at 401.783.6172 and request installation

    support.

Student FilesThe student files consist of finished versions of the various labs, files needed to complete certain

labs, and various demo applications. They are provided on the course CD in the form of a self-extracting zip file called SETUP.EXE that will create a student directory (c:/oraclass) and

    subdirectories.

Important note: If the student files from a previous session of this course are still on the

machine, they will have to be refreshed. Erase the student directory and all subdirectories and

reinstall the student files as described below.

Instructor SetupThe instructor will be presenting the course in the form of Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files, as well as

demonstrations of the labs and other applications and displays of documentation screens. Thisrequires:

An instructor workstation with the same setup as for the students.

Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on the instructor workstation. It is available in theSoftware\ Adobe Acrobat Reader folder on the course CD.

A projector connected to the instructor workstation.
