WHY CHOOSE AP?

Be with likeminded students Enriched experience in high school. AP students learn to navigate the academic expectations

they'll encounter in university courses. Earn university credit. AP exams are scored on a scale of 1

(lowest) through 5 (highest). If a student earns a 4 or higher, he or she can receive course credits, advanced placement, or both upon arriving at university.

HOW IS AP DIFFERENT/THE SAME

Material covered in class is enriched Alberta curriculum and geared towards university, however, they are not tested on this additional material

ASSESSMENT IS STANDARD between a regular course and an AP course. AP curriculum outcomes are assessed separately and will not be reflected on your Alberta Education Transcript.

AP courses offer the possibility of earning university credit in grade 12. The exam cost is approximately $125/exam.

It’s recommended that a student has at least an 80% in the previous course.

AP allows you to take only the courses that you’re interested in

Able to join/drop the program at any point in high school

Often allows for more time to explore extra-curricular or other courses

The Diploma Program begins in grade 11
