Fabrication Capabilities - AP1000 Shield Building Modules

• Each panel is roughly 10’ high by 3’ wide by 40’ long

• Constructed with specially qualified ¾” thick alloy steel plates

• Over 1,600 welded re-bar connection rods with 3,200 re-bar ends welded

• Rolled shape to form the 150’ diameter shield building

• Rigorous quality requirements of the NQA-1 quality program

Fabrication Capabilities - Confinement Vessel

The confinement vessel is used to confine the effects of high explosive experiments containing nuclear material.

Major enhancement was to the equator weld (along the central horizontal axis).

Implemented to enhance production efficiencies and improve post-weld NDE success rates.

9 Confinement Vessels have been delivered, with 3 more under construction This job required material properties greater than that of traditional HSLA-100 du to the thickness needed to meet the drawing requirements. This required special mill runs of material, heat treating, and testing to ensure all parameters are met. - All complete penetration welds are examined with Encoded Phased Array utilizing multiple scan offsets and groups of elements and then examined with radiography to ensure a sound weld joints. - The acceptance criteria of these welds surpass any previous welds accomplished, including Naval Rx installation. - Machining tolerances on certain features are held to ten thousands of an inch (0.0001) and require photogrammetry to ensure that all tolerances are met. - HII Mechanical is currently the only supplier of 3 ft HSLA-100 vessels. - Depending on the experiment being conducted in each vessel these vessels can be utilized multiple times.

Fabrication Capabilities - Vitrification Melter

• The vessel shell is 84” tall, 98” in diameter and with a 2-1/4” thick wall• The stainless steel 304 shell is shown with spacer bars for the water jacket • NQA-1 program built IAW ASME Sec VIII, Div1• The Melter is a vitrification vessel that mixes highly radioactive liquid waste with

a silica like substance, heats the mixture to a high temperature, and then pours the mixture into 2 foot diameter by 10 foot long containers for burial.
