  • Duraforce® Non Woven / High Strength Woven GeoTextiles

    08

  • Duraforce® Non Woven GeoTextiles are a premium range of needle punched engineering fabrics for, drainage, fi ltration, separation, reinforcement, and

protection. Duraforce® GeoTextiles are manufactured to ISO 9001 standards in one of the worlds most modern Geotextile production facilities and are tested

and approved to NZTA specifi cations. Duraforce® is available in a range of grades depending on the particular engineering application required.

There is a very broad differentiation of GeoTextiles based on the manufacturing processes involved. Frequently there will be a secondary benefi t required of the GeoTextile as well as the primary function, e.g. drainage as the primary function and separation as the secondary benefi t.

Non woven needle punched GeoTextiles are manufactured from the extrusion of fi bers which are then laid down on a manufacturing “bed”. They are then needle punched to entangle the fi bers resulting in a porous yet dimensionally stable product. Additional thermal treatment is then applied to further improve the strength of the GeoTextile. Because of this manufacturing process, Non Woven GeoTextiles are generally best used in applications of drainage, fi ltration and protection.

Duraforce® High Strength Woven GeoTextiles are ideally suited for applications of reinforcement or separation as the strength of the tape or fi lament within the fabric may be increased to suit a specifi c application, either in one or both directions. These textiles would not usually be recommended for fi ltration as a primary function.

These GeoTextiles additionally have the ability to provide high strengths at relatively low strains which is a very important requirement in reinforcement applications.

In applications of reinforcement and where a load may need to be sustained

by the GeoTextile for signifi cant periods of time, the choice of polymer used in the construction of the fabric will determine the choice of woven product. The infl uence of creep effects on varying polymer types is well understood and will have a marked infl uence on the load carrying capability of the GeoTextile selected.

Cirtex offers a range of woven GeoTextiles to suit applications requiring both separation and reinforcement.

The Duraforce® PP (polypropylene) range of products is generally used where the primary function is one of separation with a secondary benefi t of reinforcement. Typically the strength range of these products is between 20 kN/m to 80 kN/m.

The Duraforce® PET (polyester) range of products is used for primary applications of reinforcement over extended periods of time. Typically the strength range of this product is between 100 kN/m to 1000 kN/m.

There is a very broad differentiation of GeoTextiles based on the manufacturing processes involved 09

  • 11

    0800 CIRTEX | CIRTEX.CO.NZ

Secugrid® and Combigrid® are rigid Multi-Directional GeoGrids for reinforcing pavements and soft sub grades. These grids are ideal for reducing aggregate depth requirements and providing a stable platform on soft ground.

GeoGrids for reinforcement of pavements and sub grades are subjected to high impact loads of short duration. Secugrid® and Combigrid® excel in this application due to the inherent strength in the GeoGrid bars.

Secugrid® Geogrids® are the next generation of GeoGrids produced with state of the art manufacturing technology unlike any other GeoGrid on the market today. The reinforcement element is highly orientated polypropylene bar that is uniformly extruded and drawn to achieve a high modulus and strength at low elongation, and excellent radial stiffness. This is combined with NAUE patented welding technology to provide a structurally sound and stable GeoGrid with 100% junction effi ciency at working strains.

These grids are ideal for reducing aggregate depth required, and providing a platform on soft ground

  • High Strength Polyester GeoGrid

    12

  • High Strength Polyester (HSP) GeoGrids are ideally suited to retaining wall structures and embankments, which are subjected to long term creep loads. HSP GeoGrids have superior long term creep resistance compared with an HDPE or polypropylene polymer.

ACEGrid® from Cirtex is manufactured by ACE Geosynthetics, one of the worlds largest producers of HSP GeoGrids and has been exhaustively tested and used in a wide variety of reinforced soil structures throughout the world including a signifi cant number of structures throughout Australasia.

HSP GeoGrids are very easy to install and available in wide width rolls minimizing wastage and labour during installation.

Cirtex are able to offer full documentation on ACEGrid® for connection capacity with a wide range of segmental block systems available within Australia and New Zealand.

Many case studies using ACEGrid® are available on request.

Cirtex provides a concept design service using comprehensive design and analysis software for reinforced earth structures.

  • Gabions have been popular for over a hundred years. Typically the lengths are 2m or 4m and of height either 0.5m or 1m. The traditional use of gabion baskets is that when rock fi lled they could be designed to act as a monolith mass for retaining wall construction that was quite fl exible in nature, was free draining and is well suited to remote construction areas. Cirtex gabions may be supplied as either heavily zinc coated units or with a layer of plastic coating over the zinc coated wire to afford additional protection in locations where corrosion is likely to be a concern.

Rock Mattresses are a thinner profi le gabion and traditionally has been used in applications such as creek and channel linings where long term scour is an issue. The confi nement of appropriately sized stone within a mesh effectively increases the resistance of such rock to movement for a given fl ow condition and subsequently protects the underlying soil from scour. Cirtex rock mattress product is typically supplied in plan area of 6m x 2m with varying thickness products ranging between 0.17m to 0.3m. Like the Cirtex gabions the product is traditionally supplied as a zinc coated unit but may also be supplied with a plastic coating over the zinc where corrosion is likely to be an issue.

Additionally Cirtex are able to supply product manufactured under a Galfan wire coating process where the addition of aluminum to the zinc process can provide additional life to the wire in extremely aggressive environments. The Galfan wire may then be coated with a plastic coating for further enhancement if required.

  • Armourfl ow® / Durafl ow

Armourfl ow® is a geo-composite drainage board comprising a dimpled plastic core with a GeoTextile fi lter bonded to the core to provide a drainage panel that can collect and fi lter water ingressing from backfi ll soils.

Heavy duty backing protects waterproofi ng coatings and channels water effi ciently to the drainage system, preventing hydrostatic pressure build-up.

  • ProTubes are manufactured from a unique high fl ow woven GeoTextile comprising a multifi lament/monofi lament weave, which effectively contains sludge while resisting clogging.

The use of GeoTextiles fabricated into large bags or tubes for the containment of materials to form engineering structures in marine environments was largely developed in the USA in the late 1980’s.

In more recent times the use of such products has been extended to include the effective dewatering of sludge from a range of industrial processes. The use of such products provides a very innovative, effi cient and economical alternative to the dewatering of sludge over more traditional methods.

ProTubes have proved to be an economical and effective option for dewatering both oxidation ponds and sediment ponds in a range of local conditions.

  • Pre Fabricated Vertical Drain (Wick Drain)

Wick Drains can be of signifi cant assistance in increasing the speed of consolidation of very soft soils and ultimately increasing the shear strength of the soil such that some engineering structure may be constructed.

Cirtex offers the CeTeau range of Wick Drains (formerly Mebra Drain) which consist of a specially designed polypropylene core extruded into a unique confi guration to transmit maximum water fl ow on both sides of the core.

The core is fully wrapped in a Non Woven GeoTextile fi lter that is ultrasonically welded to maintain effective fi ltration. The main design advantage of this core structure is the resistance to pinching off fl ow when distorted under the effects of ground consolidation.

Cirtex wick drains have been used extensively throughout New Zealand for many years, and are the leading brand worldwide by volume used.30
