The Advanced Certificate in Web Development is registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), qualification ID 101900.

Admission requirements for the Advanced Certificate in Web Development:

• NSC or equivalent with a minimum 30-39% or better in the language of learning (English) • Students must first pass the Higher Certificate in Graphic Web Design (qualification ID 96731) to be able to

advance to the Advanced Certificate in Web Development.

International student requirements:

International students must ensure that:• they have an equivalent qualification;• the equivalent qualification is recognised by SAQA; and that• they have a valid study VISA issued in the name of Prestige Academy that covers the duration of their

studies.

NOTE: After successful completion of the Higher Certificate in Graphic Web Design, the student may articulate to the Advanced Certificate or Degree.

The Student initially applies with Prestige Academy to study towards a specific qualification. Prestige Academy is currently in the process of a business transfer to become part of STADIO. This will result in the Student obtaining a STADIO qualification when the programme has been completed successfully.

ABOUT THIS PROGRAMMEThis one-year advanced certificate encourages students to be equipped with web development skills and techniques essential to develop interactive websites and animation. This programme has been designed to teach students theadvanced web page design and development using JavaScript, web scripting and web programming. In addition theywill focus on professional skills needed to work successfully in any business environment including interpreting briefs and project management. Gaining knowledge about the industry practice that entails establishing the target market, conceptualisation, web marketing, design skills and software. This highly sought after one-year qualification will give you the skills you need to become an accomplished professional multimedia designer or web developer.

MODULE DESCRIPTION

JavaScript

JavaScript teaches the student the basic structure of programming. At the completion of this module, the student will have knowledge of JavaScript programming, interacting with controls on the client side, doing calculations and create a small animation for the website as well as create client-side forms using the same structure as in Web Scripting and in .NET pro-gramming.

Website Design

This module will equip students with the necessary knowledge and a basic understanding of using a professional visual editor for creating and managing Web sites and pages. Student will be able to create and edit cross-platform, cross-browser pages. It also sets a foundation for advanced design and layout tools, as well as making it easy to use Dynamic HTML features such as animated layers and behaviours without writing a line of code. Browser-targeting checks your work for potential problems on all popular platforms and browsers.

YEAR 1

Advanced Database Creation

SQL (Structured Query Language) is a database computer language designed for the retrieval and management of data in relational database management systems, database scheme creation and modifications. SQL is a standard interactive and programming language for querying and modifying data and managing databases. The core of SQL is formed by a command language that allows the retrieval, insertion, updating, and deletion of data.

Web Development

Unit A: ASP.Net

At the completion of this module, the student will have knowledge of designing client and server side websites, communica-tion between client and server side coding, using web services between websites projects, XML technology, as well as SQL database to save and retrieve information. This will be done in the Microsoft environment using Ms Visual Studio.

Unit B: PHP; Content Management System (WordPress)

At the completion of this module, the student will have knowledge of designing client and server side websites, using open source technologies, creating and modifying PDF and text file. It includes creating and connecting to email addresses and store information on MYSQL database as well as using MVC frameworks in PHP. The student will also gain the knowledge and skills to create and manage a content management system such as setting up and maintaining a blog website and applying a variety of themes according to different requirements.

Web Marketing

Internet marketing, also known as digital marketing, web marketing, online marketing, search marketing or e-marketing, is referred to as the marketing (generally promotion) of products or services over the Internet. E-marketing is used as an abbreviated form for Internet marketing and is considered to be broad in scope because it not only refers to marketing on the Internet, but also includes marketing done via e-mail and wireless media. Digital customer data and electronic customer relationship management (ECRM) systems are also often grouped together under Internet marketing. Internet marketing ties together the creative and technical aspects of the Internet, including design, development, advertising, and sales. Inter-net marketing also refers to the placement of media along many different stages of the customer engagement cycle through search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimisation (SEO), banner ads on specific websites, email marketing, mobile advertising, and Web 2.0 strategies. Furthermore the module also covers the management of online interaction with cus-tomers.

Web Scripting

This module equips the student with knowledge on constructing an interactive & animation-based web product by using software suitable for this purpose. In particular, attention is paid to development language, commands to create a functional animation product, how to construct a complete web scripting product using various technical features, and evaluating an interactive web product. The modern version allows far more control and code reusability when building complex anima-tion-based applications. Web interaction with HTML & JavaScript are the future of the web. By completing this module, you will set foot in the right direction towards web animation scripting.

Work-Based Learning

Work-based learning (also called internship or professional practicum) happens in your final year of study. It involves learning through placement at a company for the purpose of gaining hands-on experience through executing actual tasks and assign-ments. Work-based learning is structured around a clear purpose, performance (outcome) targets and procedures in collabo-ration with the employer and lecturer(s) concerned. It provides students with an opportunity to acquire first-hand experience of the world of work in the industry concerned. Students should acquire an in-depth knowledge of workplace practices as well as a broad knowledge and understanding of how the host organisation operates.
