UNIQUE 3D SCANNING ANDSURVEYS THAT SAVEVALUABLE TIME ANDINCREASE PRECISION

Ramboll has an integrateddepartment of trained surveyorsand data specialists to perform 3Dscanning and surveys. With substantial experience in usingthis cutting-edge technology, ourservices can save you hours ofcostly shutdown time as well as theexpensive human errors thatinvariably follow traditionalmethods or occur when the 3Dtechnonolgy is misapplied.

Quicker implementation

The scans can be used forcontrolling new components beforetheir assembly, thereby enablingquicker assembly with fewerproblems, less offshore welding andshorter shutdown time for processsystems. 3D surveying is ideal for facilitatingquicker implementation of projectsallowing for substantial financialbenefits.  Ramboll uses and developsspecialised 3D laser scanning andsurvey tools. We offer precisionsurveys to engineering, design andconstruction project activities.

The surveys help reduce and eveneliminate the inherent geometricalproblems associated with new orretrofit design and constructionprojects.

Cutting edge technology

Our skilled personnel and state-of-the-art equipment capture realscenes with an unprecedentedcombination of speed, accuracy, completeness and safety. Thetechnology is utilised in most of ourprocess and production areaprojects. 3D laser technology facilitates thecapture of physical objects such asstructures, pipe work andmechanical components. Throughsurvey analysis this is converted toa virtual but true to life as-built 3Dmodel. From this model existingcomponent geometries andphysical relationships can beextracted within a tolerance of fewmilimeters.

Modeling in India

3D scanning can be used formodeling of as-built models. Our

modeling team at our office inChennai, India, is specialised inmodeling projects.

A real life example

In one week Ramboll's surveyorsperformed 130 scans on five levelson the Gorm E platform in theNorth Sea.  Based on the 130 scans, Ramboll'smodeling team in Chennai, Indiamodeled all details from two inchesand above and delivered acomplete model of the platformwhich serves as as-builtdocumentation. Within six weeks from start up ofthe project Ramboll delivered a fullconcept design layout.

With an advanced surveying instrument that uses highspeed laser, our surveyor is able to capture vast amountsof coordinates. The scanner "records" a 3D picture of asite, structure or construction by measuring angles anddistances to points on surfaces which are visible to thescanner. All data from the different scans are gathered in a so-called "point-cloud", which is a cluster of points in threedimensions. These points are later processed by asoftware program that produces 3D deliverables.

The 3D point clouds are compatible with all CADprograms. The data from PC and CAD models can beintegrated into the same final design. The 3D and laser scanning systems are very user friendlyand easy to understand for both engineers andcustomers. Ramboll provides Netview solutions for online access tothe data.
