INTRODUCTION TO THE SERVICE Sheila JonesBrothers and sisters in Christ: Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ’s holy Church. We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the spirit. All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price. Through Confirmation, we profess the faith into which we were baptized, acknowledge what God is doing for us, and affirm our commitment to Christ’s holy Church.

RENUNCIATION OF SIN AND PROFESSION OF FAITH Rev. Ben Butler(confirmands stand)

On behalf of the whole Church, I ask you: Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin? Yes.

Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? Yes. Do you receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments? Yes.

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in the grace of God, and promise to serve Jesus as your Lord, in union with the Church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races? Yes.

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Reneé Scales(mentors stand)

Will you who sponsor these candidates continue to support and encourage them in their Christian life? We will.

(congregation stands)Will you, as Christ’s body, the Church, nurture one another in the Christian faith and include these persons now before you in your care? With God’s help we will so order our lives after the example of Christ that, surrounded by steadfast love, you may be established in the faith, and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal.

(confirmands come forward and kneel at altar rail; parents/siblings and mentors may join them)

THANKSGIVING OVER THE WATER Rev. Ben ButlerEternal Father, pour out your Holy Spirit to bless this gift of water and those who receive it, to wash away their sin and clothe them in righteousness throughout their lives, that dying and being raised with Christ they may share in his final victory. Amen.

BAPTISM AND CONFIRMATION Rev. Barry MaleWe baptize you in the name of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Holy Spirit work within you, that having been born through water and the Spirit, you be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Amen.

RECEPTION INTO MEMBERSHIP Rev. Barry MaleAs members of Christ’s universal Church, will you support the United Methodist Church and this congregation with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service? Yes.
