Find a CourseTo login go to liveandplay.burlington.ca.1. If you do not have an online login simply

contact us at [email protected] with your email address and within two business days your NEW online login will be emailed to you.

2. If you do not have an account, you can create an account by clicking on the “Create an Account” button at the bottom of the Log In Box. Fill out the “Don’t Have a Login Yet?” page. Once all the fields have been completed, click the Submit button at the bottom. An email will then be sent with a new password to your email.

We have updated our online registration and facility booking system to serve you better. The system streamlines services to provide an easier and more user-friendly experience for registration.

General InformationThrough our city-wide adult programming, we strive to enable residents 19+ and 55+ to remain vital, healthy and connected to their community. Staying active, learning new things and being social are key to a healthy lifestyle and vibrant community. Enjoy our unique programs in a welcoming and social atmosphere. When attending Adult 19+ and 55+ programs, please keep the following in mind:

ParkingIf you are able and wherever possible, please park in spaces further away from your program facility to leave parking spaces closest to the facility available for those who may not be able to walk as far.

FragranceOur facilities are not fragrance free but we are aware that many participants and some instructors have sensitivity to fragrance. Please limit the use of personal fragrances when attending programs.

FeedbackRecreation Program Satisfaction surveys are distributed to participants twice a year; once in the Spring session and once in the Fall session. We also welcome your feedback through suggestion cards or by email to: [email protected]

Program LevelsFitness program participants must be able to demonstrate skill levels and/or prerequisites that match the levels advertised as determined by program instructors. If you are not meeting requirements staff will offer suitable alternative program options.

Full ProgramsIf the program you would like to take has already filled up, there may be other opportunities of the same program on a different day, time or location. You can also put your name on the waiting list; a space may open up for you. Waitlist indicate level of interest and help us offer programs accordingly.

Program CancellationsSometimes programs are cancelled due to low registration. Please register early for programs you would like to attend.

Program ChangesThe Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to change the time, location, instructor or fee if required.

Exclusion DatesRefer to your program confirmation for information on any exclusion dates there may be for your program.

Burlington Seniors' Membership

A Burlington Seniors' Membership is required to participate in all Adult 55+ registered programs at the Burlington Seniors' Centre, Music Centre and Central Arena locations.

Membership Fee Ages 55-89 $35.20 plus tax, per year

Honorary Member Ages 90+ FREE

Membership includes:• Access to participate in all registered and

drop-in programs at Burlington Seniors' Centre, Music Centre and Central Arena locations.

• Discounted rate for registered programs designated for adult participants aged 55+ and 19+ at all other locations.

• Discounted fees on day trips and socials.

Not Included:• Drop-In Swimming, Aquatic Fitness, Fitness,

Lap Swim, Recreational Hockey and Skate programs.

Note:• A Burlington Seniors' Membership is required

to purchase and use the Adult 55+ member drop-in tickets at all locations.

• A membership is not required to participate in drop-in or registered programs during the summer session.

• Membership fees do not include tax.

Drop-In TicketsDrop-In Tickets can be purchased at the Burlington Seniors’ Centre, Tansley Woods Community Centre, Brant Hills Community Center and Haber Community Centre. Up to date information on drop-in programs can be found online at burlington.ca/dropinandplay

Adult 55+ Member Drop-In TicketAvailable in single ticket or 11 ticket booklets. The booklet option offers a discount and is perfect for those who attend drop-in programs on a regular basis. You will be asked to present your membership card at the time of purchase.About this ticket:• Only current Burlington Seniors’ Members can benefit from this reduced rate Drop-In Ticket.• Cannot be used for Aquatic, Fitness, Swim or Skate Programs.• Can be used for 19+ and 55+ drop-in programs at the Burlington Seniors’ Centre, Central Arena, Brant Hills Community Centre, Haber Community Centre, Mainway Ice Centre and Tansley Woods Community Centre.

Adult 19+ Program Drop-In TicketAvailable as a single ticket. About this ticket:• No Burlington Seniors’ Membership required.• Cannot be used for Aquatic, Fitness, Swim or

Skate Programs.• Cannot be used for member only programs at

the Burlington Seniors’ Centre, Central Arena or Music Centre.

• Can be used for 19+ or 55+ drop-in programs at Brant Hills Community Centre, Haber Community Centre, Mainway Ice Centre and Tansley Woods Community Centre provided age requirements are met.

• Can be used for 19+ drop-in programs at Burlington Seniors’ Centre

Program FeesTax: all program fees are advertised without tax included. Tax will be added on at the time of registration where applicable.Non-Residents: Non-residents will pay an extra premium to register for programs. The Non-Resident fee increase is $10.00 plus HST where applicable above the published resident fee (R) and Member Fee (M).Member Fee: the Member Fee is advertised with the letter M beside the fee. The member fee for Adult 19+ and 55+ programs indicates that a reduced fee is available to current Burlington Seniors’ Members.Resident Fee: the Resident Fee is advertised with the letter R beside the fee. The Resident fee for Adult 19+ and 55+ programs is applicable to all adults who are not Burlington Seniors’ Members

Drop-In Fitness Class Descriptions for Adults 19+

Aquatic Fitness Classes

Aqua Boot CampInterval cardio based workout with varying intensity and equipment to increase strength and aerobic endurance in chest deep area of the pool.

Deep AquafitSafe and effective exercise routines are presented in an easy to follow format with upbeat music. Participants are suspended in deep water. Aqua float belts are supplied.

Gentle AquafitThis program is geared to individuals looking to strengthen and train their body at a lower intensity. Focus will be on range of motion for joints, muscle conditioning, balance and postural training.

Shallow AquafitDesigned for both swimmers and non-swimmers. This is an excellent workout for aerobic and muscular fitness without the risk that accompanies high impact. Participants will work at their own pace. Safe and effective exercise routines are presented in an easy to follow format with upbeat music.

Fitness Classes

20/20/10This class is the total package. It includes 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of muscle work and then a deep 10 minute stretch.

Cardio SculptIncludes a warm-up followed by cardiovascular training using a variety of aerobic movements and patterns. The class will use hand weights for an effective muscle conditioning/strength component. Finish off with tension reducing stretches.

Interval TrainingThis class alternates cardiovascular “heart health” training with equally important muscle conditioning/strength exercises. Followed with a great overall stretch.

Walk/Tone/StretchAerobic walking and/or running around the gym using various arm movements and foot patterns followed by toning, relaxation, breathing and stretching exercises.

YogaTake this opportunity to calm your mind and body while lengthening and strengthening your muscles. Please bring your own yoga mat.

ZumbaWelcome to your dance party. Using many forms of cultural and current music you will move and groove.

Pickleball 19+ and 55+An accessible age-friendly sport! Learn and develop your skills in our lessons or join a recreational play program to play with others in the community at your skill level.

What is Pickleball?Pickleball is a paddle-racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Played on a small court, singles and doubles use strategy and positioning to score up to 11 points. Forgiving enough for beginners, and yet fast-paced and competitive enough for advanced players this sport is taking the world by storm.

Lessons and Skill DevelopmentDo you want to learn how to play or practice your skills? All registered lessons follow a progression according to skill level. Identify the level that suits your abilities best. Instructors and staff are happy to assist. See our Lesson Progression chart on page 96.

Know Your Skill LevelUnderstanding your level is important to join lessons or recreational play with others of similar skills. Pickleball programming is organized by player skill level. To help determine your level of play, we have developed a rating chart starting with beginners at a 1.0 to advanced players at a 5.0. Please determine your skill level to fit into a program that is best suited for you. Find our rating chart online at burlington.ca/Pickleball.

Recreational PickleballGet in the game. Two ways to play.The City offers both registered and drop-in recreational play opportunities for a variety of skill levels across the city. Join in on our Recreational Pickleball programs either by registering to reserve your spot or Drop-In and pay-as-you-play!

Minds in Motion

Minds in Motion is a program that combines physical activity and mental and social stimulation for individuals experiencing early stage memory loss and their guest. The two-hour once a week program runs for eight weeks and offers a great environment to establish new friendships with others who are living the same experience.

Program Changes and Cancellations

The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to change the time, location, instructor or fee if required. All program/facility information advertised in Live and Play Guide and Adult Program Booklet is subject to change. Courses may be cancelled due to low registration or circumstances beyond our control. If this situation occurs, a full credit or refund will be issued.

WaitlistsYou have the option of going on a wait list for any full program. When an opening occurs you will be contacted by phone or email to confirm your interest and make payment. You will have two business days to confirm your participation before registration staff will offer the spot to the next person on the list.

Non-residents• Non-residents are individuals who do not

reside in Burlington or do not pay taxes to the City of Burlington.

• Non-resident program registration begins the Friday following the Burlington Resident registration launch.

• Non-residents will pay a premium to register for programs. The Non-resident fee increase is $8.00 (plus tax where applicable) above the published resident fee (R) and Member Fee (M)

RefundsTo request a refund, please complete and submit a “Transfer/Withdrawal Form”. Refunds for payments made by credit card will be credited back to the appropriate credit card. Refunds for payments made by cash, cheque or debit will be refunded as account credit or upon request, a cheque will be issued and mailed to you within approximately 15 business days of your request.• If your program is cancelled prior to the start

date or if you withdraw from your program prior to the start date, you will receive a full credit or refund.

• Once the program has started, if you withdraw from a program before the third lesson, refunds will be prorated on the percentage of the program remaining at the time the refund request is received.

• Refunds after the third lesson require program supervisory approval.

• Refunds will be prorated to the date of request and not on the date of the last class attended.

• Refunds will not be issued for one day programs or workshops

• Please note there are no refunds or waitlists for Day Trips. Trip registrations are transferable but it is up to the registrant to find their replacement. If you decide to transfer your trip registration, please inform customer service staff at the Burlington Seniors’ Centre immediately. It is extremely important that we supply a complete and correct roster to the trip coordinator.

The 2020 Spring/Summer edition of the Live & Play Guide will be the last edition. But don’t worry, all programs and offerings will be online and we will provide paper copies of drop-in schedules and registered programs in all City facilities – which we’ve been doing for years.
