What is SalesLogix?

Begin by answering the question, “What is SalesLogix?”.

• Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system

• Helps an enterprise manage customer relationships in an organized way

• Includes business processes in sales, marketing, and services that touch the customer

✰ SalesLogix is highly customizable.

SalesLogix differentiates from other CRM systems in that it is highly customizable. An Accounting firm may have very different needs than a Mortgage firm. With SalesLogix, the product can be customized to meet each user’s unique business needs.

The SalesLogix Environment

The SalesLogix NetworkA typical SalesLogix network consists of the following components:

• Database• Servers• Clients

DatabaseSalesLogix supports two database platforms for the main office.

• MS SQL Server 7.0 with SP1 or higher, or MS SQL Server 2000 with SP3 or higher.• Oracle 8i (version 8.1.7.4) or Oracle 9i (version 9.2.0.2). Both Oracle versions require the

ISO 8859-1 character set.

Remote database platforms use MSDE 2000 (Microsoft Data Engine).

Note The SalesLogix database is installed on the Database Server.

Servers

The SalesLogix Server has already been installed in this class. You will install the SpeedSearch Server and Synchronization Server later in this class.

Most of the time, administrators will not install SalesLogix server components

for their business. A Business Partner or Certified SalesLogix Engineer typically does the installation. However, administrators should know that the installation of the SalesLogix Server gets installed first because it automatically creates a connection in the Connection Manager.

The Sync Server will exist on each student’s machine for class for training. In a

regular office environment, this server would not exist on the same machine as DB server because it can be very resource-intensive.

Clients

✰ There are 4 SalesLogix Client applications available.

A business may any of these applications, depending on their needs. Support is an add-on solution, while the other Clients come with the SalesLogix installation CDs.

In this class, students will be working with the SalesLogix Client and the

Remote Client. Best Software offers a separate class for administering the Web Client and the Support Client.
