AFTER DECADES of coping with the health effects of type 1 diabetes, Marcia Capriotti found herself at the Emory Transplant Center with her husband, Bruce, awaiting a lifesaving kidney and pancreas transplant. “I was in shreds,” he says, recalling his over- whelming concern for his wife. Shortly before the operation, renowned Emory transplant surgeon Christian Larsen came to speak to the couple. “He made us feel so at ease,” she says.
