DESCRIPTION

East Branch The headwaters of the East Branch Luxapallila Creek form in Marion County north of the town of Winfield. The stream is approximately11 miles in length and flows southward through Winfield. According to the TMDL the sources of pathogens are urban runoff, failing septic systems, unpermitted discharges of wastewater, and agriculture. Non-point sources are believed to be the primary cause of E. coli in the watershed. The TMDL calls for a 89% non-point source load reduction.

The most likely sources of pathogen loadings near the source (Thomasville) and at the end (Fulton) of the impaired portion of Bassett Creek are urban runoff from residential and commercial developed areas, SSOs, and failing septic systems. The most likely sources of pathogen loadings along the impaired portion between Thomasville and Fulton are failing septic systems and pastureland with livestock present.
