Some commendable fresher, friendly styles alongside more complex method traditional efforts. Best wines showed balance - balance of sugar and acid; fruit intensity and freshness; brightness and maturity. Overall sweet wines have a place in the commercial world, but are less preferred by judges. Top wine showed a nice mixture of vineyard elements - bright fruit flavours and winemaking / age complexity.

A solid class with many well made wines but not a high percentage getting gold or silver accolades. It displays the scale of the 2013 vintage in the Adelaide Hill, with some wines being a little more dilute than usual. The top end wines showed great diversity and discussion with the two gold's being very different wines with the fruit driven style just touching out the Sancerre style in the end. Major faults in non-award winners were excessive added acid, oxidation or over addition of residual sugar.

Overall quality is good - Few faults and good varietal expression. Under - overripe flavours and overdone winemaking (malo, oak, solids) are detractors. Sweet/sour characters also are an issue for some lower pointed wines. This may be due to vineyard homogeneity - uneven ripeness in the pick. Aniseed character comes up repeatedly and seen as a positive.

A real mixed bag of varieties and styles. Many alternate varieties and blends show a lot of promise in the Adelaide Hills region. As the vines get older these varieties can only get better and better which augers well for better days ahead. The two golds were varied in style but the Fiano showed a tad more intensity and complexity. The Gruners were very interesting and certainly created a lot of discussion. This is a variety that should flourish in the Hills.

A very good class with the 2012 vintage showing magnificent potential. Big discussion over the top wine but a 2012 finally took top gold over a good 2010 Shiraz. Major faults were over oaking and some being a bit lean and herbal. Some excellent whole bunch styles that are showing good potential but watch to not overdo it.
