ADEJEPATRONALFESTIVAL

History, the things that happened centuries ago and the tradition of wors-hip which emanates from out past, and which is maintained and kept alive by the people down through the years, has meant that our Patron Saint has a very special place in the hearts of Adeje people; La Virgen de la Encarna-ción (Our Lady of the Incarnation). In her name we come together again to celebrate our local festivities.

The annual coming together under the protection of our Patron is one of the principal symbols of unity that we have in this borough. We have met the challenges and today Adeje is where it should be, a leader in the region and the island. It is time to rise to meet new challenges which will help us move ahead, advance, but never forgetting to look back from whence we came.

This is the perfect time to come and get to know Adeje, to get to know the values that are reected in the people of our borough and which, from the council’s point of view, are our greatest treasures – the value and merit of our people and that desire that each and every one of them has to move forward in promoting harmonious co-existence, living together in peace, in the search for the common goal of happiness.

I hope that with this ‘co-existence’ we can enter a new dimension, that of social diversity. The years, the experience, the richness of our people and the valuable lessons those of our community have taught us over the years gives us today the capacity to live in peace and harmony. Now what is vital is that we don’t stray, even a millimeter, from this path, with the wellbeing of all the people our ultimate goal.

I invite you to get to know each other a little bit better every day and be part of the resource that makes our society as rich as it is – the people of Adeje.

Bearing all that in mind I would encourage everyone to enjoy these festi-vities, of la Virgen de la Encarnación, with the sincere wish that our Patron truly becomes the People’s Patron.

ADEJEPATRONALFESTIVAL

Dear brothers and sisters in faith, residents of Adeje

The celebration of a festival, an occasion, or an event, creates in us a wealth of internal emotions: some that are happy, some that are sad in remembe-ring those gone before us, and that unite us during these day, in a spirit of celebration, which encourages us, with the help of all, to contribute to the events planned for the 2014 festival.

If there is one thing that brings all of us believers together it is Our Lady of the Incarnation, she brings sense to our history in this borough, particular-ly our recent history, and she helps us look to the future, to work to conti-nue to build an Adeje that does not just evolve from its Christian roots, an Adeje which is prospering spiritually as well as in material ways. Her cape and crown, which are on the front of this festival programme, reect well this element of unity.

The Mother of God is always with each and every one of us, expressing for Christians the door to heaven, chosen by God so that they may enjoy the salvation of the world. For that reason she is a unifying element for everyo-ne, not serving any particular interests, but all of those who have faith and who ask her to intervene before His Son for all of us and help us discover peace in our hearts.

Our Holy Mother is also there to intervene on behalf of those who may be of a different faith but who come with true devotion to make a genuine request for assistance. Many times these people are a source of spiritual enrichment.

We therefore commend ourselves to Our Mother so that we may continue to grow as believers, as a community, as citizens, and enjoy to the full the Adeje festivities without compromising our identity, without losing sight of a prosperous future for all, that we may live our life in such a way that always have Christ as the centre of our being, in our hearts, as is the wish of Our Lady of the Incarnation.

May the Lord bless and protect us all

FELICES FIESTAS
