Additional Information for Spring Advising
**Clinical Laboratory Science, Healthcare Administration, and Health Information Management need to be referred to the department for the application process. Clinical Laboratory Science -‐Must apply March 1st of sophomore year. -‐Last two Chemistry courses (CHEM 2330/2130 & CHEM 2350/2150) may be hard to get into. Communication Disorders -‐3.0 overall GPA requirement. -‐Student must be in good academic standing when applying ß Currently not in 2012 catalog. -‐Must complete 50 hours from the required courses listed in the Freshman/Sophomore years. -‐A GPA tracker is displayed on the Department of Communication Disorders website. Healthcare Administration -‐There is no limit on enrollment because admission is not ranked, but if the program grows there could be a limited enrollment in the future. -‐Must have a 2.75 Texas State GPA -‐Successful completion of all general core and support courses. -‐Must have a ‘C’ or better in MATH 1315, ECO 2301 or 2314, HP 3325, and HA 3308. -‐Each HA course may only be repeated once. -‐Admission requires an application, a written statement of purpose explaining why the student wishes to be in the program, and a passing score on the GSP (70% or higher). ß SLAC offers tutoring. -‐GSP may not be taken more than 3 times. -‐Any student wishing to change their major to Healthcare Administration must meet with Dr. Morrison. Health Information Management Students need to be in the process of completing core and support courses to apply. Nursing -‐Nutrition 2360 is now required to have a ‘C’ or higher. -‐Must meet TEAS minimum requirement -‐Reading 81% -‐Math 76.7% -‐Science 70.8% -‐English 73.3% -‐Composite 73.3% -‐Teas may be attempted twice, but each attempt needs to be from a different form. Students must also pass each section in one sole attempt (ex. They can’t use a passing Reading and Math score from their first attempt, and a passing Science and English score from their second attempt). -‐Students should start studying now and this summer; the first attempt needs to be early fall, so they have time to study for the 2nd attempt, if needed. Practice exams and study guides are available on-‐line at the Nursing website. -‐Students switching their major to Nursing must attend a Nursing Essentials session – No RSVP

Radiation Therapy -‐Application is not available on-‐line. Health Professions will be sending over a few to us, but application may also be picked at the Health Professions advising center. -‐Accepted students have an average overall GPA of 3.34. -‐Must have everything in progress or complete by end of Spring, having one class in summer may not rank the student as high as students with complete courses. -‐Letters of recommendation should be from academic professors, employs, or where they are doing their observation hours (cannot be the same person who filled out their observation hours form). Must talk about their work ethic and their ability to work with people. -‐HA 4307 and 4315 require departmental approval. -‐Observation hours must be completed in one week, a list of observation sites is included. Student must complete an observation evaluation form and mail it straight to the Radiation Therapy Program. Respiratory Care -‐Must have 2.5 overall GPA to apply. -‐ All general core and support courses need to be done by time of application. -‐Must have a ‘C’ or higher in RC 1313. -‐No deadline is set for Fall 2013 admission as of this time.
