In the area full of history, tradi tion, and culture from the Middle Ages, seven artists and groups explore various types of artwork including gigantic artworks unique to the open-air public space. Let’s discover the exciting mixture of new and old in Hakata in this fall!

A gate adorned with a giant split curtain, symbolic of Hakata’s Japa-nese beauty
Constructed in 2014 as a gate to welcome people to Hakata’s temple and shrine district. A wooden gate with four pillars, it draws inspiration from the typical architectural style of temples in medieval Hakata.

A temple reconstructed by feudal lord Kuroda Nag-amasa. This temple is connected deeply with Haka-ta’s merchants, with the grave of renowned Hakata merchant Kamiya Sotan located within the temple grounds. There is lots to see, including the Kaizan-do and Hojo temple buildings, as well as a bell tower. This year, the temple also plays host to
artworks.

Hakata Machiya Folk MuseumA tourist facility showcasing Hakata's traditional ways of life and culture. During the Light Up Walk, you can enter the Exhibition Hall for free from 5:30 pm, and the museum's opening hours will be extended to 9 pm.
Rediscover Hakata's culture
This free tourist facility displays and sells a range of traditional crafts from Fukuoka, including Hakata-ori textiles and Hakata ningyo dolls. The 2nd floor Permanent Exhibi-tion Room also features Hakata ningyo dolls from the Edo period and a large hariko rugby ball. The museum's opening hours will be extended to 9 pm during the Light Up Walk.
Hakata Traditional Craft and Design Museum
NAKED, a creative company involved in performances using light, including at Nijo Castle in Kyoto, will hold a special light up and dance show. And a shrine building with a ceiling depicting traditional events in Hakata will also be open to the public. With free entry, do not miss this premium show of light and sound, themed on the "Song of Kuroda," a folk song from Fukuoka.
