Focuses on building a creative strategy and then creating advertising based on those strategies to meet marketing communication goals. Students communicate through both copy and visuals as they gain experience in writing strategy, conceptualizing, designing, and writing messages for print advertising and other integrated marketing communication applications. Students also learn how to execute such messages, as well as how to analyze and evaluate their persuasiveness. STCM4300: Brand Design & Communication. A senior capstone course focusing on the communications process of building brands. Students learn how to effectively create a corporate identity and create a corporate image which they will communicate across all forms of communication including advertising, public relations and online media. Students also learn how to differentiate a company from its competitors and build relationships with stakeholders. This course focuses on conceptual ideas, implementing creative execution and the final production of communications. JOUR4800: Multimedia Journalism Workshop. Working in teams, students prepare a weekly series of professional-quality, online news productions. The class works with the student newspaper to cover a variety of issues of interest to the community. Students research, write, and edit long-form stories and present them in the online newspaper. The storytelling and presentation formats include video, audio, slideshows, text, graphics, and podcasts. STCM15000: Professional Applications of Technology. Introduction to preparation of communication and learning materials using technology tools. Hands-on practice designing organizational communications, presentations, training materials, and project management documents. Introduction to roles, tasks, and professional responsibilities of communications and learning professionals. Emphasis given to improving workplace productivity through effective use of computer software. STCM11100: Presentation Media and Visual Design. Introduction to the planning, design, production, and delivery of presentations using media, including posters, slide presentations, computer graphics, and websites. Emphasis on systematic design and production, critical application of visual literacy, and graphic design principles to instructional, informational, and motivational messages. Students’ projects focus on creative use of these media in organizational settings. STCM33200: Writing for Public Relations. Fundamentals of writing for public relations. Emphasis is placed on format requirements of materials submitted to the media; writing for a client; persuasion in writing; and clarity, flow, and other elements of proper public relations writing style. Provides applications using news release, feature, article, editorial, and financial report formats.

TVR13100: Media Writing. Exposes students to a diverse selection of writing styles and formats used in the mass media, introducing critical and analytical media writing skills and providing an opportunity to write in areas such as journalism, television, and advertising.

CGR231: Introduction to Computer Graphics. Students are taught how to develop a solid foundation regarding the purposes and methods for a wide array of software applications and techniques. They become familiar with the recent practice and history of digital/computer art, and begin to develop a personal ideology and intuitive relationship with computers.

CGR232: 3D Modeling and Lighting. This course focuses on the concepts, aesthetics, processes, and practice of 3D computer graphics. Methods of instruction consist of lectures, demonstrations, film/video presentations, studio assignments, in-class lab time, and group critiques. Evaluation is based on quality of work, comprehension of concepts, demonstration of effort, exploration of new ideas, and personal development as an artist.

RET400: E-tailing as a Marketing Tool. Students are introduced to the fundamental components of e-tailing as a marketing tool. This course provides an overview of current e-tailing practices in the B2C (business-to-consumer) marketplace and helps the participants understand the fundamental components for a successful B2C business. Topics include protocols, privacy and security, log analysis, and application service providers.

IST444: Information Reporting & Presentation. This course is designed to introduce students to basic concepts in the presentation of information in oral and printed form. In this course students explore a variety of techniques to capture and keep the attention of the audience, as well as draw them to the important aspects of the presentation. Students learn the strategic role information presentation plays in the workplace by taking a hands on approach.

IST463: Designing Internet Services. Introduces the principles for the construction and publication of multimedia (text, graphics, video, sound) documents by incorporating a user-based approach to the planning, design, implementation, and management of the documents over a distributed network environment, the World Wide Web. Students learn many aspects related to professional Web design and management.

ICC555: Communicating With Computers. This course focuses on the practice of using Macromedia Flash for interactive (Website) development. The course investigates a variety of techniques and applications. It also highlights the different concepts underlying the technical applications and discusses them from both a strategic and operational perspective. This course is designed to test the students’ creative, artistic, and technical abilities.

ICC600.2: Seminar in Interface Design. Students conduct intensive exploration and design of user interfaces for online applications. Using a number of applications, students prototype user interfaces in accordance with principles enunciated in theoretical readings.

The objective of the course is to provide students with a sound understanding of electronic commerce applications and to foster their ability to define strategies for implementing such applications in organizations. Different business models underlying these electronic commerce applications are discussed from both an operational and strategic perspective.

225-20000: The Digital Workplace. This course explores how the use of various computer mediated communication technologies - including e-mail, groupware, the Internet, and wireless devices - shape and are shaped by our everyday communicative practices and working relationships in organizations as well as by organizational cultures. Students explore various systems and applications using a hands on approach.

2010Became the 17th person ever to complete both Ultraman Canada and the Ultraman World Championship (Hawaii) in the same year. The Ultraman is a 3 day triathlon consisting of a 6.2 mile swim, 271 mile bike and a 52.4 mile run.
