course Description This Acute Pain Management course is designed for a primary target audience of anesthesiologists. Primary care physicians, hospitalists, and other allied health professionals who are responsible for the Pain Management of patients in Acute Pain that are either in hospital or pre-hospital may also find the course of interest. The Acute Pain Management Symposium will focus on a comprehensive review from Pharmacologic Management, Adjuvant therapies to Advanced pain management techniques and strategies. The course will include workshops on complementary medicine (acupuncture, bio-feedback, relaxation techniques) as well as ultrasound guided blocks in the upper and lower extremities.
Learning objectivesUpon completion of this course, participants will be able to:• Evaluatethephysiologicalandpsychologicaleffectsofacutepain• Determinehowtomaximizeadjuvanttechniquesinacutepainmedicine• Utilize advancedpainmanagementtechnologiessuchasPatientControlledAnalgesia• Assessandmeasurepainandtreatmentsofpain• Criticallyevaluatetheuseofpharmacologicandnon-pharmacologicaltechniques• Satisfy MABoardofRegistrationinMedicine(BORM)PainManagementandEnd-of-
LifeCaretrainingrequirements,includingcounselingpatientsonthesideeffectsandadditive nature of prescription medications.
