Harvard Medical School presents… ACUTE PAIN MANAGEMENT SYMPOSIUM Saturday, September 7 – Monday, September 9, 2013 e Fairmont Copley Plaza, 138 St. James Ave., Boston, MA Harvard Medical School • Department of Continuing Education Course Description This Acute Pain Management course is designed for a primary target audience of anesthesiologists. Primary care physicians, hospitalists, and other allied health professionals who are responsible for the Pain Management of patients in Acute Pain that are either in hospital or pre-hospital may also find the course of interest. The Acute Pain Management Symposium will focus on a comprehensive review from Pharmacologic Management, Adjuvant therapies to Advanced pain management techniques and strategies. The course will include workshops on complementary medicine (acupuncture, bio-feedback, relaxation techniques) as well as ultrasound guided blocks in the upper and lower extremities. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Evaluate the physiological and psychological effects of acute pain Determine how to maximize adjuvant techniques in acute pain medicine Utilize advanced pain management technologies such as Patient Controlled Analgesia Assess and measure pain and treatments of pain Critically evaluate the use of pharmacologic and non-pharmacological techniques Satisfy MA Board of Registration in Medicine (BORM) Pain Management and End-of- Life Care training requirements, including counseling patients on the side effects and additive nature of prescription medications. Target Audience Anesthesiologists, hospitalists, surgeons, primary care physicians responsible for acute pain management in their settings. Nurses and nurse practitioners with a focus on acute pain management. Accreditation The Harvard Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
