Activity 76People, Birds, and Bats
Challenge: What kinds of evidence can you use to classify vertebrates?
Getting Started…
•How many types(classes) of vertebrates are there?
•After you discuss, look on page #30-31
5 Main Classes of Vertebrates
Warm Blooded VS Cold Blooded:
Warm
• Can regulate their body temperature to a fairly constant temperature by generating heat within their bodies.
• Does not mean they are literally always warm
Cold
• Body temperature is dependent on out side temperature
• Does not mean they are literally cold all of the time
Procedure:
• Read the procedure on page 24.
• Use the data table provided to try and classify each of the organisms given
•When you are finished, work with your group answering Analysis Questions #1
and 2.

Analysis #2
• Some vertebrates appear to fit into two or more different classes because not every species in a class has every common characteristic of that class.
Example: Whales and dolphins do not have visible hair, yet hair is considered one of the traits that distinguishes mammals from the other classes.
