Lesson plan 2Pre A1 levelGet ready to perform!
Activity 1: Preparing to perform
Objectives:
► to explore characters further and deepen comprehension of The tea party
► to think about what they are reading and prepare to perform
Put students into groups of four or five. Tell them there should be one Alice, one March Hare, one Mad Hatter and
one Dormouse in each group. Hand out The tea party chapter and Worksheet 1: At the tea party! Tell students to
underline the character names for example ‘Dormouse’.
Ask them to complete Worksheet 1 with their own dialogue and drawings in the boxes provided. Ask them to
decide if their character is friendly, angry, silly, sleepy etc., where they are and also what they are doing in each
moment.
You can also assign a Director to the group or add extra characters like the Caterpillar or the Cheshire Cat, as
well as ask other students to practice the Mad Hatter’s Twinkle, twinkle little bat song on page 44.
In this second lesson plan about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, students will learn about character, plot
and storyline in the context of drama.
Activity 1: 15 minutes Activity 2: 15 minutes Activity 3: 20-30 minutes

Activity 2: Rehearsing
Objectives:
► to practice saying and performing The tea party
► to work on pronunciation
► to work as part of a team
Hand out Worksheet 2: Vocabulary and in their groups ask students to practice the vocabulary and cut out the
words to make sentences they can use in their performance.
As they practice remind the Director/s that they are responsible for checking whether the characters speak with
the right emotion, are in the correct place and do the right actions.
Activity 3: Performing
Objectives:
► to perform part of the story in English
► to provide a recording of their work
► to reinforce and support understanding of the story
The groups can now perform for the class. As well as submitting the recording to the competition, you can let the
students watch and listen to themselves afterwards. This is useful for them, if you’d like them to assess their own
pronunciation etc.
The competition judges will be looking out for the use of vocabulary, the introduction of the characters, the use of
all Alice-themed props and of course your own fun and creativity!
You can find the competition criteria and as well as all the other materials in the Competition Kit at
