Activities to Increase Consciousness about National
Identities and Constitutional Obligations
The students and the staff of Government College Madappally have pledged
to stand firm to protect human values. We spare no effort in imparting value based
education to our students and the importance of integrity and ethics. The graduates
and the postgraduates who pass out of the college are trained to be professionals
and follow ethical practices in all the activities they engage in. The various clubs and
the departments of the college regularly conduct programmes to create awareness
on human values and professional ethics.
National Seminars and Invited Talks

Two day national seminar on the topic “Democracy, Development and
Globalisation Perspective and Experiences” was held on 30-31 January 2015. The
impact of globalization on democracy and development were put to discussion. The
importance of protecting human values amidst the growth of competitive growth of
various economies was analyzed. The event was attended by 200 students.
The Post Graduate Department of Political Science organized a National
seminar on the topic “Human Rights, Development & Environment on 10th and 11th
December 2015. The seminar focused on the importance of awareness of basic

human rights and the legal ways to protect them. The speakers gave an orientation
on the need to react and respond against the violation of human rights. Around 250
students participated in the seminar.

A national seminar on the topic “Politics of Exclusion: Democracy and the
Marginalised in India” was organized on 29th and 30th November 2016 by the Post
Graduate Department of Political Science. The talk focused on the issues faced by

the marginalized and the need to seek remedial measures. The seminar focused on
the various dimensions of exclusions and examines the way of state, political parties
and civil society organization responses to address the grave issues. The event was
attended by 150 students. The special invitees for the programme were the social
activists KK Kochu and M Geethanandan.
The two day national seminar on the topic “GST: Theoretical and Practical
Implications for Kerala” on 24th and 25th January 2018. The talk focused on the
advantages and disadvantages in of implementing GST. The event was attended by
150 students.

The Department of Chemistry hosted a talk on Cyber Security by Shri ARS
Iyer, Joint Director Intelligence Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs on 09.12.2016. The
talk focused on the misuse of social media and the need to be careful with one’s
online presence. The legal remedial measures to fight cyber crime were also
discussed during the session. The session was attended by 210 students.

A Two Day National seminar was organized by the PG department of
Commerce on the topic “Quality Services in Banking”. The seminar focused on
banking practices, ethical banking and the importance of keeping transparency. The
event was attended by 200 students and Kudumbhasree unit members.

The students of the college visited the rehabilitation school 'Snehaveedu'' for
the children affected by Endosulfan on October 2nd Gandhi Jayandhi. The students
interacted with the children and entertained them with various games and
programmes.
The Anti-Ragging Collective organised a discussion on “Film as a medium”.
The participants of the forum discussed ways to tackle bullying.
Blood Donation Awareness class organised by the NCC.

Felicitating the students who took part in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi in
2017.
Students participation in Run Kerala Run, a Unity Run Programme conducted as part
of National Games.

Courses
The general English paper “Spectrum: Literature and Contemporary Issues
(ENG4 A06),” for the fourth semester students deals with real life scenarios in
which human rights get challenged. The paper aims to make the learners aware
of the humanist dimensions of literature and media in the contemporary world.
The paper is planned to enable learners to understand the concepts like
globalization, commercialization and intellectual property rights through new
literatures and inculcate the spirit of universal brotherhood by presenting critique
of race, xenophobia, war and national borders. The students undergoing the
course will develop the knowledge about the rights of minorities such as
children, animals and the disabled and thus create a positive change in societal
perception.
The general English paper “Writing for Academic & Professional Success (ENG2
A03),” for the second semester students give an overview of the professional
ethics and the implications of plagiarism.
The general English paper “Zeitgeist: Readings on Contemporary Culture
(ENG2 A04),” for second semester students aims to foster among learners an
awareness of the diverse problems faced by women and the sexual minorities
and to promote a culture of inclusion mutual respect. The paper also aims to
analyse the concept of "human" as articulated among the various cultures and
promote a multicultural and plural understanding of rights.
The Core paper “Informatics” (ENG5B04) for fifth semester students pursuing
BA English deals with ethics in the cyber world.
The core paper on “Gender Studies” for sixth semester students pursuing BA
History deals with gender issues and human values.

The students of MA Politics have an elective paper on “Human Rights in India
(PS3E01)” The course facilitates the study of the concept of Human Rights, its
origin and development, with special reference to India in the context of the
Constitution and other laws. It also focuses on the rights of the marginalized
groups, Public Interest Litigation, environment and Human Rights, new
dimensions to Human Rights. Jurisprudence and legal protections available for
the protection and promotion of Human Rights.
The students pursuing B Com have a paper “Business Management (BCIB01)”.
The paper aims to familiarize the students to the process of business
management and its functions and understand the importance of ethics in
business.
