DEPARTMENT PROFILE

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established

in the year 2006. The department is well equipped with excellent

computing facilities, and has qualified and dedicated faculty specialized

in areas like Data Mining, Wireless Networking, Image Processing etc.

Programmes run by the department are,

B.E. Computer Science and Engineering.

M.E. Computer Science and Engineering (Started since 2011).

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEPARTMENT

Main focus of all our faculty members is to impart quality teaching

to the students in the teaching-learning process.

Our department offers expert lectures, seminars and colloquiums on

a variety of topics every semester, to provide value addition to the

curriculum.

Our faculty is committed to the pursuit of transformational research

activities.

The department provides a number of student support services like

providing students with class advisors; provide semester and

intermediate semester progress updates to the students and parents,

etc.

JUNE 2016: A Crash Course on Resource Management Techniques(CS 6704)

Department of CSE organised a 3 days crash course (27-29th June 2016) on Resource

Management Techniques (CS 6704) for faculties and registered participants of AEC and

other AU affiliated colleges. Dr.Paulraj, Professor, DOM, Anna University, delivered expert

lecture and the course was coordinated by Ms.Chitra Devi, AP, CSE. The participants were

awarded certificates at the end of event by Dr.M.P.Sivaramkumar, Principal , AEC &

Dr.Paulraj.

JULY 2016 : CSE Students Forum Inauguration for the year 2016-17

Department Welcome party was celebrated at AEC to inculcate seniors to be friendly and

motivate their juniors. Immediately after the start of the academic year, II year students come

into their respective departments and start dreaming about their Welcome Party, which is

celebrated every year in our college by the Seniors (Pre-final and Final year students) for

their Juniors.

All departments Forum's were inaugurated on 29/7/16 by Mr.V.UdaySankar , Regional Lead

of Nascomm, Chennai. The department toppers were given certificate of merit and the

Student Secretaries and Joint Secretaries were nominated for the academic year 2016-17.

AUGUST 2016: FIRST YEAR INAUGURATION 2016 :

The Inaugural function of the BE program for the 2016-17 batch was held today, August 4th,

2016 at Sakuntallammal Auditorium, AEC campus. The program commenced with a prayer

invoking the blessings of the Almighty followed by the lighting of the auspicious

kuthuvilakku by the Chief Guest Dr.R.Jayavel, Director, Centre for Research, Principal, Vice

Principal, parents and some of the freshers. Principal, Dr.M.P.Sivaram Kumar extended a

warm welcome to the freshers, their parents and all the invitees to the inauguration. The

HOD's gave an overview of respective departments. This was followed by a motivating

inaugural address by Dr.R.Jayavel, Director (Research), Anna University. Finally, the event

was concluded with representative talk by one student of every department briefing about

their departmental activities to their freshers.

AUGUST 2016: Hands-On Workshop on Grid and Cloud Computing

Department of CSE organized a 2 days hands-on workshop on Grid and Cloud Computing on

3rd

& 4th

August 2016, for the final CSE students. Mr.Kailash and Mr.Mahendran, resource

persons from CDAC, Chennai handled the sessions very effectively.

AUGUST 2016: Hands-On Workshop on Grid and Cloud Computing

Department of CSE hosted a 2 Days "Orientation Programme on Data Analytics with

Handson workshop on R-Studio Tool for the Final year students on 12th and 13th August

2016. Dr.Arockia Xavier Annie and Dr.Kanna Nehimiah were Resource persons from Anna

University , Chennai and ICTACT was workshop partner for the event.

Dr.M.P.Sivaramkumar, Principal , AEC felicitated the experts.

SEPTEMBER 2016:

Final year students of Department of CSE, participated in "CII - Hackathon" contest held

today, 17/9/16 @ Tech Mahindra, Sholinganallur, Chennai. The students displayed their

innovative ideas developed into software products. The final certificate distribution ceremony

will be held on 28/9 at Hotel ITC grand.

OCTOBER 2016: CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Apollo Engineering College organized a workshop for pre-college students titled

"Xplore Engineering 2K16" between Oct 13th

. "AEC proudly takes a hand, opens a

mind, and touches a heart by emphasizing the higher-order thinking skills and providing

hands-on learning activities to outperform the school students significantly". CSE department

conducted training on PC assembly, Mobile Hacking, Shown some of the Android Apps

developed by our students and Graphic and Animation development workshop for the school

students.

OCTOBER 2016 : INDUSTRIAL VISITS

A day long guest lecture was organised by Apollo Engineering College for final year students

of CSE, ECE, EEE & Mechanical Engineering departments on the topic "Industry

Expectations from Fresh Engineering Graduates". Mr.Issac Patturaja, Manager - HR,

Sanmina - SCI India Pvt Ltd delivered the impressive guest lecture for the students.

AUGUST 2016: TREE PLANTATION PROGRAMME

The NSS Unit of Apollo Engineering College organized Tree Plantation programme on

5/8/2016 in the premises of Apollo Group of institutions. The Programme was inaugurated by

Mr.Ganesh, Regional Manager, Mahindra Housing Ltd., Principal Dr. M.P.Sivaramkumar,

Vice Principal Mr.Velusamy, HODs, Faculty members, NSS committee members and more

than 100 student volunteers were present for the event. Under the said programme, NSS

volunteers planted 200 tree saplings of different varieties viz ornamental, shadowing and fruit

bearing trees.

AUGUST 2016: Raksha Bandhan

In AEC, Rakhi celebrations are organised every year in view of strengthening the bond of

love and fostering brotherhood. The celebration was followed with the good enthusiasm

among the students and staff as well. Raksha Bandhan, in AEC, is a way to harmonize the

relationship among students of all departments. The tradition continues every year as staff

and students started tying rakhis to their fellow Apollites.

AUGUST 2016: Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night is celebrated @ AEC every year, as this is where our final year students spend

their Cultural Night out with friends. The students had a blazing bonfire night with Cultural

programmes which would ever cherish their memories.

SEPTEMBER 2016: NSS ACTIVITIES

NSS volunteers of AEC attended a one day programme on Meditation @ Heartfullness centre

in Babu ji Ashram on 10/9/16. They had a good day with the outcome realisation "what we

are and what we can be". Fun activities, experiential session of Heartfullness relaxation and

meditation, team activities were organized to make the Nss volunteers the brand ambassadors

of Peace & Harmony.
