“Límites de la razón ética” Carlos Pereyra FACULTAD DE FILOSOFÍA Y LETRAS UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL AUTÓNOMA DE MÉXICO
RESUMEN: Es bien sabido que a lo largo del tiempo se ha formulado gran variedad de opiniones respecto a cuáles son las tareas propias de la filosofía política. La diversidad de formas discursivas observables en la historia del pensamiento político vuelve harto difícil fijar con precisión qué cosa se entiende por filosofía política. Como lo anota Rawls, "hay, por supuesto, muchas maneras en que puede ser entendida la filosofía política; escritores de diferentes épocas, enfrentados a circunstancias sociales y políticas diferentes, entendieron su trabajo de modo diferente". Varias serían, por tanto, las descripciones que se podrían elaborar del objeto de esta disciplina y, tal vez, está fuera de lugar la pretensión restrictiva según la cual se declara legítima sólo una de esas descripciones y se rechazan las demás. Si uno se atiene a un criterio elemental de reconocimiento en cuya virtud se admiten como filosofía política las formas discursivas históricamente así caracterizadas, la enumeración de Norberto Bobbio resulta pertinente. Los temas de reflexión de la filosofía política serían: 1) la forma ideal de gobierno y del orden sociopolítico; 2) el fundamento del Estado y la justificación de la obligación política; 3) la naturaleza de la política, y 4) el análisis del lenguaje político.

America and the Law of Nations 1776-1939 Mark Weston Janis ABSTRACT: This book is an exploration of the ways in which Americans have perceived, applied, advanced, and frustrated international law. It demonstrates the varieties and continuities of America's approaches to international law. The book begins with the important role the law of nations played for founders like Jefferson and Madison in framing the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. It then discusses the intellectual contributions to international law made by leaders in the New Republic —
Kent and Wheaton — and the place of international law in the 19th century judgments of Marshall, Story, and Taney.
The American Legal Profession in Crisis – Resistance and Responses to Change

ABSTRACT: Central to the identity of the American legal profession are its systems of self-regulation. Throughout history, the legal profession has tried to hold tight to its
traditional values and structure during times of self-identified crisis. This book analyzes the efforts of the legal profession to protect and maintain the status quo even as
the world around it changed. The book argues that with striking consistency, the profession has resisted the societal
change happening around it, and sought to ban or discourage new models of legal representation created by
such change. In response to every crisis, lawyers asked: “How can we stay even more ‘the same’ than we already
are?” The legal profession has been an unwilling, capitulating entity to any transformation wrought by the
overwhelming tide of change.
Memory: A Self-Referential Account Jordi Fernández ABSTRACT: This book offers a philosophical account of memory. Memory is remarkably interesting from a philosophical point of view. Our memories interact with mental states of other types in a characteristic way. They also have some associated feelings that other mental states lack. Our memories are special in terms of their representational capacity too, since we can have memories of objective events, and we can have memories of our own past experiences. Finally, our memories are epistemically special, in that beliefs formed on the basis of our memories are protected from certain errors of misidentification and justified in a way which does not rely on any cognitive capacity other than memory.
An Analysis of the Economic Torts Hazel Carty
ABSTRACT: The economic torts for too long have been
under-theorised and under-explored by academics and the judiciary alike. Also in recent years claimants have exploited
the resulting chaos by attempting to use the economic torts in ever more exotic ways. This book attempts to
provide practical legal research to both explore the ingredients of all these torts — both the general economic
torts (inducing breach of contract, the unlawful means tort, intimidation, the conspiracy torts) and the
misrepresentation economic torts (deceit, malicious falsehood, and passing off) — and their rationales.
Metaphysics and Cognitive Science Alvin I. Goldman and Brian P. McLaughlin ABSTRACT: It is generally agreed that physical science can shed light on many issues in metaphysics. But it is not widely recognized that cognitive science can do this as well. It is trivial, of course, that cognitive science can illuminate the nature of mind. But here it is argued that cognitive science can even illuminate the existence or nonexistence of nonmental entities and their properties. Exactly how cognitive science can address these metaphysical issues is a central question tackled in this book.
