Active Shooter Lessons Learned Course: Active shooter incidents at malls, manufacturing facilities, healthcare, offices, houses of worship, schools

This 4-day (32 hour) course is designed to provide knowledge and training to develop Field Training Officers’ skills. Each new FTO will be presented with ideas and techniques to assist them in becoming more professional and confident in the application of their skills. Instructor: Steven Kellams of FTO Solutions. In 2000 Lieutenant Kellams was instrumental in redesigning the field training program for the Bloomington, Indiana Police Department and has taught that program to hundreds of departments throughout the United States. He has also instructed on field training issues at the national level when he presented courses at the 2002 and 2008 National Association of Field Training Officers conference. In 2005, Lieutenant Kellams was awarded the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for Monroe County, IN for his work in Field Training. Michigan State Police

The purpose of this two-hour training is to train law enforcement personnel in the proper use and calibrating of the FC-10 and Alco-Sensor III PBT (Preliminary Breath Testing) instruments. Upon completion of this training, a qualified operator will be able to administer a preliminary breath alcohol test on a suspected intoxicated subject in the state of Michigan. The operator will be familiar with the operating principles of both the FC-10 and the Alco-Sensor III, know the exterior components of the instrument, know the test procedures and sequences, and know the inspection and calibration procedures for both instruments. Each agency is allowed two seats in a class. The training is for current Class III-A operators not trained for dry gas calibration and officers wanting to be trained as Class III-A operators. Each officer is required to bring a PBT to the training. If your agency has both the FC-10 and Alco-Sensor III models, please bring one of each. The change to dry gas for PBT calibration is mandatory with the transition to the new DataMaster DMT. Officers must bring their five-digit MCOLES number with them to the training for the training to be reported to MCOLES. FIELD TRAINING OFFICER SEMINAR FTO PROGRAM: The Field Training and Evaluating Program is an extension of the law enforcement selection process. It combines pre-field training with objective evaluations to ensure that the standards of a competent law enforcement officer are met. This is a 40 – hour course designed for experienced uniform patrol officers and corrections officers to learn the “new job/task” of becoming a Field Training Officer – FTO. INSTRUCTOR: DeWolf and Associates: F/Lt. Patrick McGreevy retired in 2011 after serving 29 years with the Michigan State Police. F/Lt. McGreevy began his association with the FTO program in 1994 when he became an FTO. In 1996, he became an FTO school instructor and upon his assignment to East Lansing Headquarters in 1997, he became the Department’s FTO Coordinator. F/Lt. McGreevy oversaw the field training programs of several hundred probationary troopers in addition to coordinating and instructing numerous FTO schools for the Department. In his 17 year association with the FTO program, F/Lt. McGreevy trained and mentored three subsequent State Police FTO Coordinators in addition to instructing at all State Police FTO schools since 1996.
