KEY PROJECTSThe Tasmanian Government is working hard to reduce homelessness across Tasmania.

An An overall total of 121 new units of homeless accommodation will be supplied by 30 June 2023 under Tasmania’s Affordable Housing Strategy. This is in addition to our supported accommodation facilities and rapid rehousing initiatives.

The GThe Government is investing more in outreach support through Housing Connect. More resources will be directed towards enabling Housing Connect staff to regularly visit clients in need of emergency support. They will work closely with support services to meet often complex needs of clients and provide safe and secure accommodation.

Under Action Plan 2019 – 2023, more homeless accommodation for women will be constructed in partnership with CatholicCare in Hobart. We will also work with Hobart City Mission to construct new homeless accommodation for older men. To increase capacity and service delivery, Bethlehem House will expand their men’s shelter.

We will work with Magnolia House to expand their women’s shelter to increase support to women in the Launceston area move out of crisis and into stable accommodation.

The Wirksworth Integrated Aged Care Facility will provide much needed accommodation for around 50 elderly Tasmanians who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.

A A new men’s shelter will also be constructed in the North West to help more men, particularly those dads with kids, into more stable living arrangements.

OUR PRIORITIES AND TARGETSTTasmania has the most integrated housing and homelessness system in Australia. Housing assistance ranges right across the entire housing spectrum, from homelessness services to home ownership assistance, and is aimed to match tailored solutions to a person’s individual needs.

In releasing the In releasing the Affordable Housing Action Plan 2019 – 2023 (Action Plan 2), the Government has set out the shape of its housing plan for the next four years. It focuses on constructing more affordable homes, releasing more land close to services and employment, and providing supported accommodation for targeted groups so that Tasmanians have better access to the housing and support they need.

StageStage Two builds on the work of Stage One and brings our total investment for affordable housing to almost $200 million over eight years. Stage Two will provide an additional 1500 new affordable homes for Tasmanians, and assist around 2000 households, increasing the total number of new affordable homes to 2400, with around 3600 households assisted.
