ACOUSTIC RAFTS
Architects and engineers are continually searching for ways to design thermally efficient building structures which provide natural cooling to control the ambient temperature, thus reducing the carbon footprint and energy consumption of a building.
Profile lighting, working in collaboration with multi disciplinary practices and ceiling manufacturers, has developed rafts which form the basis of the lighting installation but can incorporate services such as sprinklers, power cable trays, speakers, lighting controls and smoke detectors.
The positioning of the luminaires within the raft can be arranged for the most economical benefit. Profile have supplied both central and perimeter mounted lighting optics. Having the lit elements at the edges affords the most efficient use of the indirect lighting distribution and provides the optimum uniformity in the space.
In conjunction with this approach, lighting rafts provide a large surface area for a cost effective method of sound absorption, particularly useful in educational establishments.
Building bulletin 93 contains acoustic design requirements for sound insulation, ambient noise levels and optimum reverberation times. The use of this document is mandatory within national Building Regulations Part E and the requirements are enforced through building control.

SPECIFICATION
General: Extruded aluminium frame, 1664mm wide, suspended low profile raft, incorporating perforated steel central sections with 100mm thick mineral wool acoustic material.
O/A body lengths: To suit installation requirements.Performance: TL5 fluorescent perimeter mounted optics, direct/indirect, (60% down, 40% up), to provide a uniform light distribution
on the ceiling and working plane. Combined LOR = 77% Optic: Miro 851 diffuse matt single lamp louvre secured with leaf spring fixings.
An extruded reeded polycarbonate snap-in diffuser is also available.Lamp/Control Gear Options: TL5 16mm fluorescent in both high efficiency and high output versions: 28/54W (1200mm), 35/49W (1500mm) HF High Frequency Electronic (standard) HDP 1-10V Analogue Dimmable HTCS Tridonic ECO Switchdim Dimmable HDPT Philips Touch and Dim HTCD Tridonic ECO DSI Dimmable HTXD Tridonic EXCEL one4all (DSI/DALI) HDPD Philips DALI Dimmable
Cable Ways: Through wiring is facilitated by interlinking plug and socket connectors for quick and easy installation. Cable ways can be included for power and data cables.
Infills: Blank infill sections can be incorporated to suit the installation.Suspensions: Adjustable steelwire suspension system.Emergency: Integral, maintained, 3 hour duration emergency lighting conversion packs are available for all fluorescent lamp options.
An LED emergency downlight can also be incorporated (see pages 218-219 for full details).Services Options: Lighting Control Sensors, Smoke Detectors, Fire Alarm Sounders, Speakers and Sprinkler Heads can all be incorporated.
• Various options can be considered for perimeter mounted optics and raft sizes. Dimensions can be tailored to building construction grids and lighting requirements allowing complete flexibility for future modifications. This also means that enough acoustic material can be incorporated within the raft to cover the entire space.
