Sound sources made visible

Sound is an important part of our environ-

ment, but it is hard to locate its sources.

With the ACAM 120 acoustic imaging array

you can locate and analyze sound sources

in real time. An acoustic array built of 40

MEMS microphones (microelectromechanical

systems) combined with an optical mega-

pixel camera operates as an acoustic camera

and makes sounds visible.

Watching and listening, the microphone

array meets two needs:

x watching: creating an acoustic image,

often overlaid upon an optical image,

to visualize sound sources

x listening: focusing on sound from one

or more sources, while rejecting sound

from other sources

Watching and listening work together:

you can watch for hot spots in the acoustic

image, then listen to the sounds from those

hot spots.

Powerful and affordable system

ACAM 120 makes acoustic imaging affor-

dable, combining the latest hardware and

software components: digital microphones,

programmable logic and application soft-

ware BeamformX from OptiNav. BeamformX

applies so called Robust Functional Beamfor-

ming, a new powerful algorithm. Compared

with conventional beamforming, Robust

Functional Beamforming is faster, has higher

dynamic range, and resolves more details in

space and time.

ACAM 120 is a complete and easy to use

acoustic imaging system for standalone

applications: You plug in the USB cable,

install the software, and start making useful

measurements within minutes. These are

some of the things you can do:

x display acoustic images in real time

x display the spectrum plotted against time

x display the spectrogram: the history of the

spectrum with intensity encoded as color

Your benefit

x Compact single cable array.

The USB cable carries the acoustic

data and the optical camera images

to the computer and also powers

the array.

x Uniquely powerful beamforming

software.

BeamformX has exceptional speed,

resolution, and dynamic range.

x Attractive price.

ACAM 120 is much more affordable

than other systems.

x save acoustic videos in mp4 format

x replay events of interest identified in the

spectrogram

x read a file of raw data for post-processing

x make mp4 videos of events found in

Connection to LabVIEW

ACAM 120 offers a complete system with

hardware and BeamformX software to

acquire, save, and analyze acoustic images.

Furthermore, an Application Programmer‘s

Interface (API) for LabVIEW from National

Instruments is available, so users can de-

velop and integrate their own algorithms.
