Children who are underlined

have 100% attendance for the

whole year so far.

Well done Isaac (1G) who has just gained his Level 1 swimming badge. Good luck in gaining Level 2! Children in Year 1 were set the challenge of growing a broad bean at home. Below you can see Rhys with his broad bean plant and Paige’s writing.

Look at the progress that Benas in 1F has made

with his writing. He completed the first piece in

September and the second piece in May. Benas

is now writing in full sentences and using his

phonic knowledge to help him spell. Well done!

Paige and Brooke took part in

a majorette’s competition

and won some medals. Here

they are with their batons.

The standard of home learning in 2RB

has been excellent this half term.

All children in KS1 have been lucky

enough to visit West Town Farm this half

term. Here are 2H sitting around the

campfire.

Massive congratulations to Amy

from year 4 who was our school

Top Trumps victor. She will now

compete online against other

schools to try and win herself a

place in the national finals, held

in London, Later in the year –

Good Luck!

Year 3 have been writing stories. Here is a

fantastic extract from one very impressive

piece of writing.

‘When he reached the library, the tingle

suddenly halted it’s menacing march

through his body. As he opened the door,

he was amazed by the size of the

gargantuan room. It could have held a

blue whale with plenty of room for a herd

of elephants. As he entered the room, the

variety of books stunned him and he spent

a few moments staring at the books. Rows

and rows of books.’

Girls from across all four year groups have

been receiving expert guidance in the art

of rag-rugging on a Thursday morning.

Their artwork is already looking

wonderfully colourful and we are all

looking forward to the finished pieces

being on display in the school.

Year 4 sleep-over

A group of Year

3 pupils recently

visited St. Luke’s

to get some

expert tuition in

Tri-golf. An

excellent time

was had by all

involved.

To celebrate finishing their SATs, Year 6 held a day of fun challenges. Here are some

photos from their day. The challenges were mental and physical and they worked in

teams of 4 to earn points. The winners were Jake, Kacey, Kayleigh and Maddy. Well

done to all pupils who made a fantastic effort in preparing for these tests. We look

forward to getting your results in July.

The next challenge for Year 6 pupils is to complete their writing portfolios ready for

assessment. Here is a fantastic entry by Eva Hounsell from 6St.

In a cold, dark room, the lonely old man played the piano. His brows furrowed with

concentration as he hit every note precisely. The window on the ceiling let in the last,

golden-yellow rays of the sun. It was late in the evening – his favourite time to play. The

piano, ancient yet majestic, stood in the middle of the room. It was jet-black and had been

passed down from generation to generation, until it was his grandfather’s, his father’s,

and finally his. He played the melody well; he was a great pianist and he had practised

every evening. Sitting peacefully in the attic was his favourite way to relax and remember

his life, whilst playing the piano.

Congratulations to Caden who

achieve a Bronze in the Welsh

Tae-Kwon-Do championships

recently. An excellent

achievement! In other sporting

news, here is Leah celebrating

her team’s success at the recent

Tri-golf tournament held at St.

Luke’s being proudly

congratulated by Miss Cordwell.

Whipton Wanderers Football Club

I am pleased to announce that our

team won their final two league

matches against St. Nicholas and

bitter rivals Redhills. The latter win

secured us a top two place in the

league and entry in the Exeter

District finals tournament. Well

done to all the boys involved and

good luck in the finals!

Jack, Freya and Ashdon produced this model as
