The long-term outcome of this project is the relationship-building across our two
nations and the many mutually beneficial relationships that will be developed
between Tunisian and U.S institutions, which can lead to continuing cultural andeducational exchange opportunities. It is expected Kirkwood Community College,
Iowa State University, ISET-Sfax and Amideast that this project will provide a
sustainable impact on educational exchange and workforce development. Project
sponsor, U.S. Embassy Tunis.

Topic: An Overview of Higher Education in the United States
Presenter: Dr. Linda Hagedorn

2. The Role of Workforce Partnerships within Technical Education
Presenter: Dr Kim (Johnson) Becicka
Topic: Benefits to Programs, Curriculum, and Resources
This topic will discuss the numerous benefits that technical education institutes gain through
the relationships with employer partners including program and curriculum supports, skills
and competency data, leverage financial and in-kind resources, and leveraging studentexperiences. Kirkwood successful collaborations will be spotlighted.

Topic: What is the Value? Employers Interest in Educational Partnerships
This topic will discuss the value industry and employer partners gain through these
partnerships including workforce pipeline development, productivity enhancements,
resources for incumbent workers, and employee retention. Iowa employers will share their
views on how they work with Kirkwood Community College and what is most important for
educational institutions to implement to ensure students are prepared for the workforce.
Iowa Employer Interviews.
Group Project: Conduct a focus group to learn gain an understanding of the
workforce challenges, skills, and needs of the industrial base.
Topic: Tools and Techniques when providing Employer Services
A description of tools and techniques that can be utilized to gain employer commitment and
understand the countrys workforce needs to build and expand education programs will be
shared. A how to get started guide will also be discussed.
Group Project: Discuss which tools may have use within the Tunisia Education
System.
