Cells and Their Functions

Cells are the basic unit of living things and the smallest part of an organism.

Cells need food and to get rid of waste. They also need energy to grow, move and make new cells. Most cells get energy in the mitochondria by respiration which is by mixing oxygen and food to make energy.

The Parts of Cells

Cell Membrane- hold the cell together, like your skin, like a filter.Nucleus- control center of the cell, where the DNA is.Cytoplasm- material between nucleus and cell membraneVacuoles- store and break down materials, like a stomach.

If cells are too small, there will not be enough room for all their parts. If cells are too big, oxygen and other materials cannot reach the middle of the cell quickly and it will die.
