Pablo Muñoz, Superintendent of Schools ACCESS offers a unique after school learning experience. providing homework help, academic support, college and career exploration, recreation, and self discovery activities. The components of the program are designed to provide students with the opportunity to; 1. Stay in a safe environment with positive role models during the after school hours. 2. Receive assistance with homework. 3. Engage in supportive and enriching learning activities using technology, linked to the English Language Arts, Mathematics and career and college readiness skills needed for student success. 4. Socialize with peers in a healthy manner. 5. Learn sportsmanship, fitness and fair play through participation in recreational activities. 6. Learn how to engage in a healthy lifestyle and make positive choices through character building and cultural activities. 7. Learn about and plan for career and college opportunities. The after school program operates Monday through Friday, (five days a week), for 3 hours after school from Oct. 6, 2014 through the June.19, 2015 There is a summer program, as well. ACCESS, a 21st Century Community Learning Center

after school program, is designed to support each

student’s academic, recreational, social and emotional

achievement.. It is designed to help students plan for

careers and college The program is a collaborative effort

with community partner agencies.

The mission of the Passaic Public Schools is to provide

an excellent education that prepares our students for

college, and to earn high paying jobs.

The mission of ACCESS is to provide a safe and nurturing

environment for students in grades 4-8 who are in need of

after school programming and will benefit from college

and career readiness activities designed to promote aca-

demic, physical, social and emotional growth.

● Academic Support and Enrichment

All students will participate in educational activities with

Certified Teachers from the Passaic Public Schools, in

which they will have the opportunity to work on Reading,

Writing and Mathematics Skills, and learn to solve problems

through creative projects in their areas of interest. They will

utilize exciting technology applications and be guided to improve

critical thinking skills.

Students will also have a scheduled time each day to work on

their homework and receive homework help when needed.

● Fitness and Physical Activity, Health and Nutrition Students have regular opportunities to participate in physical

activity including martial arts, basketball, soccer, fitness, exercise.

Programs are also provided to support nutritious and healthy food

choices. Students explore fitness, nutrition and health careers.

● Cultural and Artistic Enrichment Students will be exposed to visual and performing arts, as well as

multi-cultural activities and have the opportunity to participate in

clubs and college linkages for more in depth exposure in areas of

interest.

● Career & College Exploration for Positive Youth

Development Students will participate in dedicated career research sessions,

and develop a “Personal Success Plan.” This plan will help

students think about their futures, identify goals and pathways to

college, role models, and helpers who can assist them to work

toward their goals.

● Club Choice Students will participate in enrichment activities through a variety

of clubs with a focus on career and college linkages to areas of

student interest.

● Educational Field Trips Students will participate in quarterly field trips during the

school year, and additional trips during the summer in

which they take tours of NJ Colleges to learn about path-

ways to college, go to museums, performing arts, visit a

working farm and a regional park during the summer to

learn about ecology and the environment.

● Special Programs for Parents Family involvement is important to the success of all

students and has been shown to impact their academic

achievement, positive behavior, and ability to succeed in

college. The following activities have been planned by

the Passaic Public Schools parent coordinator and parent

liaisons to encourage full participation of parents and

family caregivers.

- Child development and effective parenting skills

- Learning about your child’s school and family resources

- Academic standards and the new state assessments

- ACCESS Academic Support— how parents can connect

- Project Based Learning— exploring your child’s talents

- Career and College planning and preparation

- Nutrition and family health

- Community resources that may benefit your family

- College tours available to students and their parents

ACCESS ofrece una experiencia de aprendizaje única que provee ayuda con tareas, estudios académicos, orientación universitaria, exploración de carreras, recreo y actividades para auto-descubrimiento. Los componentes del programa están diseñados para ofrecerle la oportunidad a estudiantes: 1. De permanecer en un ambiente seguro en horas después del día escolar, con adultos que ponen buen ejemplo 2. Recibir ayuda con tareas 3. Participar en actividades de enriquecimiento comprensivas, vinculadas con Artes de lenguaje, matemáticas, y preparación para la Universidad y carreras que conducirán los estudiantes al éxito 4. Socializar con un grupo de sus pares 5. Aprender el espíritu deportivo,entrenemiento y aprender el juego limpio sin trampas a través de participación en actividades recreativas 6. Aprender cómo comprometerse a un estilo de vida saludable a través de actividades culturales y el buen carácter 7. Aprender acerca de las oportunidades de distintas carreras y las universidades.

Las horas del programa son de lunes a viernes, (cinco dias a la semana), por 3 hours después de escuela desde octubre 6, 2014 hasta junio19, 2015. Habrá programa de verano.

La misión de las Escuelas Públicas de Passaic es proveer

apoya y educa a nuestros estudiantes en grados 4-6 que

necesitan programas después de escuela. Estos estudiantes

beneficiarán de orientación en carreras universitarias y activi-

dades que promueven crecimiento académico, físico, social y

emocional.

● Apoyo academic y enriquecimiento

Todos los estudiantes paritciparán en actividades educativas

con maestros certificados de las Escuelas Públicas de

Passaic donde tendrán la oportunidad de adiestrarse en

lecturas, compsición y matemáticas y resolver problemas a

través de proyectos creativos en áreas de interés.

Los estudiantes también tendrán la oportunidad cada día de

completer sus tareas con la ayuda necesaria.

● Entrenamiento físico y de salud y nutrición Los estudiantes tienen oportunidades programadas para partici-

par en artes marciales, baloncesto, fútbol, entrenamiento físico y

ejercicios. Se ofrecerán programas que apoyan la selección de

comidas nutritivas y deliciosas para la salud y bienestar corporal.

● Enriquecimiento cultural y artístico

Expondremos a los estudiantes a los artes visuales y de interpre-

tación asi como actividades multi-culturales además de inte-

grarse en grupos de sus áreas de interés.

● Exploración de carreras y universidades que fo-

mentan el desarrollo positivo de la juventud Los estudiantes participarán en sesiones dedicadas a la re-

búsqueda y creación de un plan de éxito personal.

● Elección de distintos clubs Los estudiantes participarán en una variedad de actividades de

enriquecimiento en arte, drama musical, baile, ciencias, entre-

namiento y más. ● Excursiones educativas Los estudiantes participarán en excursions cada trimestre du-

rante el año escolar además de excursions adicionales en el

verano. Los estudiantes visitarán universidades de NJ, visitarán

museos, interpretación dramática, sitios históricos, granjas lo-

cales, y parques regionales para aprender ecología y el medio

ambiente.

● Programas especiales para padres

La participación de los padres es integral al éxito de todos

los estudiantes y se ha probado que impacta los logros

académicos y comportamiento positivo de los mismos.
